Does anyone have any experience with these pistols? I feel like this would be a great pistol for CCW. How do you guys feel about me selling my PT1911 for this? I do like my Taurus it has never jammed. However, 9mm would be cheaper to shoot and the Taurus is just to big for me to want to carry. I have 4 months before I will be able to get my permit.

Larry Vickers, a world renowned 1911 smith and guru, has said the only reliable 1911 is a Full Size, gov't model with a barrel bushing in .45ACP. I agree with him. However, get what you want. That would be a cool gun though

I have this gun in .45 and can attest to the fact that it is a good CC piece. Mine IWB @ about 4 o'clock. I have never gotten rid of a gun and not regretted it.

I also have a Ultra Carry in .45 and its has been 99.9% reliable. One hiccup in the first mag (factory mag) with WWB and not a slip up since (have since ditched the factory mag for upgraded models). I don't have experience with 9mm but really would like to get a 1911 in it.

Hmmm... 9mm 1911's are tricky to make reliable and short 1911's are known to be finicky too, don't know if that'd be the best way to go in a carry piece.

I had an Ultra Carry as one of my first guns and it almost made me swear off 1911's forever, just plain sucked... besides, even if you get one that works I'm no fan of 1911's with added FPB's like Kimber uses and don't think they're needed, but that's just me.

The Springfield EMP is designed ground-up for it's size and the shorter OAL 9mm, might want to take a look at one of those... I've heard nothing but good things about STI's LS9 too and have been maybe considering one myself at some point.

This may stir up a bit of a "hornet's nets" RE: calibers for the GM; but ya might want to take a look at the old 38 super. The super is a great alternate to the 9mm for the GM; and it's been around a long time. I think the real bonus is the super is a longer round, and that makes it more reliable in the gm platform. I've shot 'em in the old days (...before folks tried to make the 9mm work in a gm...) out of the full size colts and they shoot like a house afire. They are flat shooters, powerful, and reliable. I'm gittin a bit older myself and am thinkin of doing a ramped 38 super in a full size gm of some sort for consealed carry. It calms down the recoil of the 45 a bit --- easier on hands that are getting weaker.

Food for thought.

1911;s Dont get me started..I own 10 out of the 15 hand guns I have.I have 2 PT 1911's like the one in my Avatar is the Duo-Tone I like it the best of my 2 PT 1911's.I have 2 Colt Commanders A Springer Mil-spec,Colt Gold Cups,Smith N Wesson nickle 1911,black pearl grips, from factory,..Well You get the picture,I kinda like 1911's.. These are all steel Guns,I carried them in fine Milt Sparks Holsters,VM2,Axiom,..But the weight started to get to me,im 54 with lower back problems, that I have a up comming surgery to deal with it later this winter,so.I thought of Smaller would be cool.I bought the Springfeild EMP 40,its all steel,I had heard it had a Alloy frame, when I bought it..My Bad,..Its the 9 mil version that has the Alloy frame. So now this litttle 1911 weighs as much as my Colt Combat Commander does,so its smaller, but still like carrying around a boat anchor,in my holster,And it set my back $1200. out the door.,,,,My last buy and attempt to find a happy mideum, was a Colt Night Defender Talo Limitted Edtion, with a alloy frame.I love this little Colt Gun.It carrys like it I dont even know its there,it only weighs 22 & 1/2 oz.s empty, holds 6+1 in 45 acp,Carpon steel slide,3 inch bushinless barrel, custom checkered hardwood grips with rampant pony logo,3 mags $1240.00 out the door.I really like this gun,I bought it Jan 2nd at the Greenbrair Guns and Leather store.Im like a Achoilic that cant go into a Licgior store.I was picking up 3 of my 1911.s that I had Jeff put some Wilson Combat Thumb safetys on,instead of the ambi safetys that were on my Combat Commander,My EMP,and A PT 1911,that I carried.I paid $120.00 for the safetys and it colst $180.00 to get them installed. If I had seen the Colt Deffender first I could have saved myself that $300.00 lol. But when I was on my way tro the back of the store to pick up and pay for my guns,I saw it in the case looking up at me saying,(Hii Big Boy,why dont you pick me up and see how good I feel),then she winked at me..I was hooked then. This was on New Years Eve,I didnt know they were going to close early,by the time I got home, grabbed $1300.00 out of the safe, and drove back, they were closed. I had to wait till Sunday when they re-opened,the day after New Years,I was the first one in the door,15 minuites later,I was headed back home with her. who cares,I think I have finially found my perfect CCW.Im like that outher guy that said he never sells or trades his guns.I dont either, when I buy one its for life.I love my Glock 27 that I carry while I work in the summer months, but in the off season,(Winter Months)Its 1911's all the way..What im trying to say is I own and have carried all sizes of 1911 pistols, and love them all.Its up to you and all of us,who go down the (1911 road) to experince it for your self and find what works for you,not what someone else says you should carry.I hope you find what it is that works for you before you spend so much money to find out.To me the perfect 1911 is a Commander size,4 or 4.25 inch barrel with Bushing, and light weight, with night sights. If I buy another 1911,it would proabbly be the S&W PD,1911 2 tone alloy frame Commander size..looks really sweet.Ill allways buy lightweight from now on.I love all steel the best for shooting, but for carry, its light weight for me..In time you will find your ferfect carry prefference.....Sorry for the long responce, and grammer.good luck, and be safe....

My carry is a Ultra CDP II in .45 ACP. After the 400 to 500 rounds break in this gun has been flawless. I carry in a Milt Sparks VM II IWB and it's comfortable.

Just saw this. Sorry for the confusion. GM= Government Model -- the big 5 inch barrel 1911 frame size.
