I just got a weatherby vanguard in .308 and I was just thinking about getting it bedded possibly. I don't know alot about those guns yet, but if you know any good gunsmiths in the area or have some advice on what I should do to it just let me know. I won't do anything really soon, but I'm just trying to find out as much info as I can and I'm gonna start saving up some money for it. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi SKINDOG

I've had a few things done by Rodney over at Sportsmans Supply (on Hixson Pike). Have been happy with the work and price.

Can't compare them to anyone else, because the only other place I've ever had gunsmithing done was at Darr's long ago before he closed shop. Can't recall the name of Darr's gunsmith way back then.

Perhaps there are better places, but I've been happy with Sportsmans Supply so far.

Ok cool I'll look into that. Just out of curiosity do you know if places like carters shooting supply or shooters depot or georgia gun trader offer any gunsmithing?

Hi SKINDOG

Some Chatt area members who know ought to step up and offer better advice. Dunno much about the various stores, good or bad. I don't get out much.

OK, here is a local TGO member who seems knowledgable about rifles--

Have met onemancoyote a few times out at Prentice Cooper and he is a fine fellow. He does rifle competition and likes to accurize his rifles. He showed me one rifle he had bedded. Have seen him make some very tight groups with a couple of his rifles. Maybe he would be willing to answer questions or whatever.

do it yourself. it is not hard to do. you can get all the info on how from the net. i done several back in the 70's when all you had to go by was the instruction in the box. now the net has all you need to do. i did several long range match rifle and they came out good. but to be just, i was hard to tell any different between ones that were bedded and the ones that had the barrel floated only. pm me if you want more info.

I use shooter's depo a lot. They have a smith part-time, you end up leaving the gun there & picking up a week later. He has done 3 or 4 things for me now, so far all have been great.
