HAVE A TRADE PENDING

I have a trade pending with a friend of mine. He has a 1966 Colt Detective Special UNFIRED that he really doesnt want. I have a stock Saiga 7.62 x 39 with 2 30 rd mags and 2 10 (I think) mags and he wants to straight up trade. I kind of feel as I am getting the better end of the deal but the grips on the gun are broke from where he dropped the gun and busted them. I would replace the grips for aesthetics sake but keep the originals for gits and shiggles. He doesnt want to fire it and he is looking for something that he can shoot. I already have a 357 Mag and a 38 snub so this will be a safe queen for me. What do you think?

Considering it will only go up in value I say go for it. Any Colt, especially a NIB unfired one, is worth more than any Saiga. You are definitely getting a deal.

The way I read this you are a little worried about ripping your friend off. You think you are getting the better value out of the deal.

A lot of people would say: You're making money here just do the deal!

Just be up front about it. Tell him that what he is trading you is worth more, on paper, that what you are trading him. You don't want hard feelings down the road, right?

That said, I wonder if what he is trading is really worth more than what you are trading. He wants a gun to shoot. He could go buy one pay the taxes and TICS and hassle with everything or he could just trade with you and keep everything very easy.

People pay money for convenience all the time, I suspect that the hassle would be enough to keep him sticking with the deal. Besides the collectors market is more limited than the shooters market. You'll have the more valuable piece but he'll have the more useful weapon and the weapon that can be turned into cash a bit quicker.

We did trade and it's all good. It's not a new in box gun as he doesnt have the box and He bought the gun from his father in law. It looks unfired but not positively sure. He knew it had more value than the Saiga but he has been itching to shoot it and he knows that I will probably not shoot it ever anyway. I am happy and he is happy and if he ever does want it back I would probably trade back with him. One grip panel has a 1/4 inch wide piece broke off the back of it so it is not mint anyway. Now to find some grips to go on it so it looks better.
