I have a Kel-Tec P-32 also. It's the smallest caliber I am willing to carry.

I do love shooting 22 LR, though. What do you think about the Jennings, Lorcin, and Phoenix Arms? I hear bad things about them, but then again, I hear the same about Hi-Points and I know peoples' bad opinions of them is unwarranted. I assume you like yours...how's the accuracy and reliability? Is it easy to find extra mags?

One of my shooting buddies uses a phoenix, it has 2 barrels and he has the long one installed. Its plenty accurate for messing around, and has not had any type of failures. Some of these companies made some potmetal specials that blew up and gave their brands a bad name. I do not know if that was later productions caused by greed, or what. Almost every used gun vendor has at least one of them in stock, so even with the numbers made, the number that kaboomed can't be all that high a %. A lot of em were destroyed too.

I have a pretty little S&W escort, cute and fun but it really does not work worth a hoot, jams and lightstrikes too much for any serious shooting. Enough parts in that little thing to make walther blush, way overengineered.

Of the Lorcin, Jennings and Phoenix Arms I would classify the Phoenix as clearly the best. However, I think they can all be made to shoot well enough within their limitations. The problem is Zamak, the zinc alloy that comprises the bulk of these guns. That stuff can crack over time, probably at a rate greater than steel or aluminum alloys, but at what rate I dunno. I imagine pin holes in zamak can enlarge depending or torque, etc. I carry a KelTec 32 quite often and would class the KT32 way above the guns mentioned above. I would enjoy working with a S&W Escort after all the 622, 422s and 2206s I have had. I have just never saw one available firsthand.

My peashooter goes everywhere with me, it was my Dad's trusty sidekick for years then it passed to me. I recently sent it back to NAA, wow it looked brand new when it came back. They went thru the whole weapon, put the new safety cylinder, shined it up, its looking good to be 32. So I went got some shiny new Stingers for it.

I bought a Jennings 22 seems like for $59 back in late 80s. Still have it and get it out every now and then to fire a few rounds. Cheap gun that shoots cheap bullets, great combo that has never failed! Just wish it was lighter I would carry it some, it feels like a lump of lead in your pocket.

The Phoenix HP22 is a nice looking gun and I think I will get one at some point. However, from what I have read on several other forums from actual owners is that the factory doesn't recommend high velocity ammunition. A number of owners have had frame cracking probems after a lot of high velocity rounds have been fired through it. In other words, it is not going to hold up like a Ruger Mark I, II, or III or a Browning Buckmark, etc., but then again it costs substantually less than any of those pistols and is a lot smaller. Having said that, if you are only going to shoot a few hunred rounds through it a couple of times a year, it will probably do fine. I have a Jimenez JA-22 and have not had any problems with it, but I have a lot of different .22LR pistols so no single one gets excessive use.

Thanks for the added info. I think for now I am going to try o get the J-22 I have running and then concentrate on getting a Ruger 10/22 or something like that.

Just to update the post I made above I took my little J-22 to the Natchez Trace outdoor range today so that I could work on it while shooting it with out anyone going ape crap like they would at an indoor rental range.

I ended up being able to file down the inside of the chamber getting rid of the dry firing damage from previous owner(s). I also widened the ejector slot to help it grab the casing.

After this I ran thru 2 mags with no failures. For the rest of the day the only issues I had were about 1 in 4 FTF. When I was able to put the FTFs back in they fired fine.

I think the firing pin is also wore down from all the dry firing, so I am going to replace that. I should then have a fun little plinker for a grand total of $60.00 including the new firing pin.
