Competitive Shooting around Memphis.

Been looking around and seeing what goes on where in the area. I'd like to make a few matches and check them out.

I see Range USA does the Glock Sport Shooting matches now, and the only IDPA I've found listed now is at MSSA in Arlington.

Anyone make it out to these, or have other events they know of around here?

Within an hour driving distance, there is TN Sports Foundation which the IDPA matches are ran by Chandler LaFrain. Try out one of his matches and you will have fun.

Good info. Driving that far isn't a big deal to me at all, even if a bit further.

Man I hate they moved the 3 gun to the 3rd Sat. It looks like I will be in Memphis the 1st Weekend in March and was hoping to make the match:(

How do you score your 3-gun matches? We use USPSA scoring, and I think it blows. I end up shooting a 10-shot Minor gun against Major guns with big mags. Then my rifle and shotgun are supposedly classified as Minor just because I shoot a Minor pistol. I think the whole Major-Minor thing is kinda gay, anyway. All non-.44 mag pistols are weak.

We are tweaking the type of scoring at this time. Matt Tipton whom shoots a lot of 3 gun matches is coming up with the type of scoring soon so that we can finalize how the club will be going forward. At this time, there are a lot of concerns with using the IDPA DMG type of classifications. I will demo Match Trax software and the 3 types of scoring: Horner system tends to favor accuracy while International Multi Gun favors speed. Comstock scoring falls somewhere in the middle

Yes, USPSA scoring sucks for 3 gun. Time plus penalties or the Horner scoring method is the way to go imho.

Ok, found out today that steel and 3-gun were swapped so that 3-gun could hopefully use the old 600 yard range at MSSA (it's available on 3rd Sat). Apparently, some 200 yard shots are in the works. Gonna be interesting with a 1-3X Leupold CQT.
