Changing Keltec P3AT Grip

Recommended Posts

I have a P3at with grey grips. I bought it during the height of the .380 rush and even though I don't really like the grey grips, I bought it anyway because I would have had to wait for who knows how long to find another.

I was thinking of trading it in for a Ruger .380, since they only offer it in the black that I really wanted and it has a better finish anyway. But then I got looking around and found out that a new grip can be purchased for around $30.

I figured I'll probably come out ahead if I replace the grip instead of trading up.

Has anyone here ever replaced the grip on a P3AT? How hard is it? If I have to take it to a Smith, I'll probably be better off with a trade.

I don't have a Keltec at the moment, but I was of the opinion that the grip and frame were alll one piece?

I think KTOG will have directions on doing this. If not someone there can tell you how to do it. I don't think it is all one piece. The frame is metal and has the SN on it. That part comes out of the plastic grip.

I think most users get a slip over hogue (?) grip or similar product. If the grip is not part of the frame (it may be?) then its probably a couple of screws to replace it. If it IS part of the frame, there isnt anything you can do apart from slip overs.

If its just a color problem, you may be able to find a product to change the color.

Here is the link to the page I found the new grip:

Kel-Tec CNC - P-3AT Accessories, P-3AT Parts - P3AT-300 Grip (available in black, gray, and olive)

Looks like it is just the plastic part, but it does say that it includes all internal parts. I'm thinking it's probably the mag release they are talking about.

I'll look around for the Houge covers. That may be agood option. Thanks for the idea.

Where did you find a grip for $30? I still don't believe the grip can be changed, as it is a one piece grip/frame.

Got this from KTOG on changing the grip:

This disassembly link is for the P11 and 1st gen P3AT. The only difference in the 2nd gen is that the recoil catch is now integrated into the grip and can not be dropped/lost. Of course the extractors are different but that has no effect on changing the grip.

P-11/P-40 and P-32/P-3AT Disassembly
