The old rifles will sometimes fire accidentally. A friend has one that was made in the '60's and had it go off a few years ago when he opened the bolt. Shook him up a little.

Yeah that's what it's about

In 2000 Rich Barber and his wife had an Remington 700 discharge on the removing of the safety. The bullet killed their young son.

The story is sad but there are some interesting points. This has been happening since the beginning of the design, according to the designer Mike Walker, however the problem is with the assembly not the design. And Remington suspended safety inspection allowing these rifles to go out to the public.

Its interesting, but definitely seemed to be a witch hunt against Remington. But I do believe they could have done things to make people aware of possible design flaws but it's a business and that hurts the bottom line. It seems most of the piece was "Remington is guilty of negligence", but as sad as a child being killed is, if you follow gun safety rules this won't happen.

I have been around guns all my life and was unaware of this problem until just recently. And it can still happen today, the dewing and assembly is the same.

This was a re- air and probably will be on again. If so it's worth the watch, even if it is CNBC

Yeah they have been saying this for years never had anything like this happen to me.

Yeah most won't have this happen. They stated 1% have this problem, thats like 20,000 guns out of 2,000,000. But if I bought a new 700 I would sure test it to see!

I'm not the repost police but this has three threads going on now.

YouTube - Remington's In-Depth Response to CNBC Under Fire

That's fine if the mods want to delete or combine them, they are more than welcome. I just posted cause it was on right then, I didn't do a search first.

As far a Remington's response it Does happen, even if they couldn't replicate the problem. Even the designer said it has and can happen, but its not a design flaw it's an assembly issue. Both sides are full of propaganda CNBC and Remington have agendas and I don't fully trust either
