Questions on a SBR AR15

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Guy's, I've tried reading and the search function to no avail. I guess my Goggle-Foo is weak.

1) If I buy and register a AR lower for a SBR, can I own multiple uppers (SBR)

(Different Calibers) to put on the same lower?

2) Can you put a regular length upper on a registered SBR lower?

I'm looking to get the most bang for the buck. Build a great lower with interchangeable

uppers.

Thanks

Yes to both questions.

If you are going to make a permanent change (caliber, barrel length, etc...) to what is on the Form 1 or Form 4, you should notify the NFA Branch in writing. Otherwise, swap away at your leisure.

You can swap barrel length all you want. I don't believe you can change caliber though.

You can.

ATF does require that a primary caliber be listed on the forms, but nothing precludes you from temporarily shooting different calibers, as long as the firearm can readily be returned to it's Form 1/Form 4 configuration. Permanent changes should be sent in writing to the ATF, so that they can update the NFRTR.

If you want to play it safe: I have seen others list additional calibers in block H on the Form 1/Form 4. However, that is not necessary.
