I was thinking about one of the oak Gerstner style tool boxes. Lots of drawers. Gerstner has a more reasonably priced "international" line mode over seas, but Harbor Freight and Grizzly tools has knock off versions around $150. Knife rolls are a good idea too.

I typically store mine in my pocket, or on top of the dresser, sometimes unknowingly I store mine in the washing machine to be found at a later date.

I once stored mine in a couch for about 3 months.

I have a lot of knives and have a wooden map drawer cabinet with felt drawer lining for them. I keep vapor packs in each drawer as well as using White Lightning bicycle lube/Protestant on them.

I can't imagine having a knife that is too nice to use (though I know a lot of people collect them). If I'm going to use it, I'm not going to worry about storing it. I expect my knives to get beat up because if they don't it means I'm not using them and have wasted my dough.

On a completely unrelated note, got two kershaws for Christmas, very nice. I'm going to get a Zero Tolerance and be done with knives for a while.

And, for the record, yes a lot of people here told me to jump on a ZT a while ago. Each and every one of you was completely correct.

Someday I plan to try and make a few knives myself. Just to see what happens.

I just went thru my dad's collection, and the ones that were stored in the leather holsters they came with all had green slime on them. I am going to have to clean them this week.

The folders he was having trouble with he appeared to have oiled lightly and wrapped in foil. They were all fine. Others were in the original wax/treated paper and those were also fine. The ones that he had wrapped all came in cheap display boxes (plastic with felt over them sort of stuff) and you can see where the metal and felt had an issue.

So, anyway, don't store them in their leather sheath :dunno: or display cases.

I have a seperate Craftsman tool box lined with rubber backed felt. It works great and locks. I also stach a few in random places because I am too lazy to put them in the toolbox.
