I had to put down a dog a couple of years back and I'm still having trouble coming to grips with getting another.

It really is loosing a member of your family.

I had to put down my cat when I was in high school. He was my best buddy. I had gotten him when I was about 3 and he was always following me around and climbing on my lap. My parents were out of town and he was already very sick with kidney cancer. I came home from school and basically found him lying there barely conscious and having a hard time breathing. So I took him to the vet to put him down. One of the hardest things I've ever done.
