Best place in Knoxville area to buy bulk foods

I am going to buy some food to store long term and was wondering if anyone knows of places cheaper than Walmart/Sam's?

To give you a price to compare to Walmart sells enriched rice for $6 for 20 pounds. Not an awful bad price but looking for something cheaper if it is possible.

I know I need more stuff other than the rice. The price above is just for comparison to save me some running around.

Thanks

Dolomite,

I am interested in this too. I have recently started stockpiling food for several reasons.

After a nasty conflict with the manager of Sams I haven't been there in several years but might consider returning if it is really a good place to save money. I have been of the opinion that one would have to save quite a bit to make up the cost of membership.

Just buying regular food for only moi, I save the $35 in two months or less.

I may have to reconsider and join again. I wish we had a Costco here. I have read a lot of people that think they are better than Sams.

If you have family and eat much meat, you might recoup that fee in just one trip.

The only time I've been able to compare both was when I used to go to Norfolk every month or so for a number of years; my friend there belonged to both. I couldn't see all that much diff between the two price-wise, and neither could she -- just differed in inventory, but of course that is a hugely moving target.

That said, I wish we had one here too -- but we couldn't legally carry there.

I have a source for food grade buckets with o-ringed lids. I already have about 10 but plan on getting at least 10 more. Going to fill them with dry food supplies to about 1/4 the way up then drop a handfull of dry ice in and finish filling the rest of the way. Put the lids on loosely then seal them 24 hours later after the dry ice disappears. The CO2 kills the bugs and displaces the oxygen, because it is heavier, to prevent the oxidation of the food. After that they are being put in a freezer for long term storage.

I just started to make a sand filter. I am using a 5 gallon bucket for trial and error then after I get the mechanics of it worked out I am going large scale. Sand filters work great and after 2-3 weeks can be drank from directly without boiling or disinfecting the water.

I am going to be picking up a generator soon as well. I have to work it out but I suspect I can run the generator on hydrogen. I will generate my own hydrogen using a HHO generator and water. I have generated hydrogen before during some rust removal experiments a number of years ago. It was easy to generate but the conductor plates I was using went away kind of quick. 316L seems to be the longest lasting. It is easy to make hydorgen and as long as I can get the plates to last I will have a endless supply of hydrogen as well as energy.

Aldi is cheap and the stuff is good. It's next to the home Depot off Clinton Highway.

I like their steaks wrapped in bacon, pretty cool little place.

I like everything I have tried from Aldi (except the corn chips, Fritos can't be beat.) The ingredients of most of it is pretty good. They have a no sodium added chicken soup stock I love to use for a good soup.

My wife calls people like you weirdos....

Sams Club is the cheapest place in Nashville...other than a grocery supply warehouse.

Maybe so it's just that the whole Wal-mart empire thing scares me.
