Winchester Ranger Law Enforcement Ammo, 40 S&W, 180gr. SXT.

What's the story on these?

Been doing some searching on it and found this

The RA40T is the premium duty load using the SXT bullet. The RA40180HP is just a regular HP bullet nothing special at all.

A lot of folks get these two rounds confused. Both of the boxes look identical (tan, Winchester Ranger, w/star) except for the flap ends which are printed with their contents. D

The RA40T has the nickle case and clean "serrated" rim on the bullet, you can clearly see the petals folded over the rim and down into the HP. That's the SXT bullet.

The RA40180HP has a brass case with a standard type lead HP with a copper jacket. It is NOT a duty round. It's an inexpensive version of the premium round for practice.

I have seen some of this exact ammo somewhere here lately. It looked to be in a very old looking box though. Like it had been sitting awhile or something. Is it still made?

I have a box of the RA40T with the nickel case.

How is this for personal defense?

Cool, I carry Federal Premium 165 Hydra-Shok JHP's, I guess I can change out, to the Rangers.

The Winchester Rangers are loaded to high velocities, plus the SXT bullet provides reliable expansion. It is a bonded JHP, similar to the Speer Gold-Dot.

That price is good, but ESPECIALLY for a 50 round box. Sounds like one that I'd stockpile if I had any money. Like they say, "If we had any ham, we could have ham and eggs, if we had any eggs."
