I'm new to TGO. I'd appreciate any thoughts or experience people have regarding vests for CC. I've shopped the internet and can find some in styles such a photographer, western leather, sportsman. Would they would do the job? Are they are a 'flag' for CC?

I , like some are of the opinion that they are a "FLAG". others don't think so. You have to make up your own mind. I prefer a jacket or loose shirt.B)

is this for you to cc? or for comp shooting?

to me a vest says gun under here. unless its accompanied by a ratty fishing hat with flys stuck in it. you may consider other forms of concealment b4 indulging in a vest. but if its cheap, go for it and sell if it doesn't work out for you. just my opinion, yours may vary.

Photog vests scream "gun", while fleece vests are very much in style. They are a bit floppy for drawing a gun, but that can sometimes be remedied by the user.

anything that even remotely resembles anything out of the 5.11 catalog screams gun to those in the community. don't get me wrong, I like my 5.11 pants at the range or some other like-wise class or event. but the photog vest is a no go unless it is stuck full of fishing equipment or there is a huge canon/(insert your favorite camera company here) around your neck...

I agree. They look goofy.

You want to wear something that does not call attention to you. Might as well open carry as wear one of those vests.

Coronado Leather makes some very nice, and expensive, classic leather vests designed for carry, In fact their whole line of products is designed for carry.

Leave the photog and fishing vests alone.

Got a couple of Columbia fleece pull-overs for Christmas and they have worked very well for me. Good concealment, warm, comfortable, and fashionable (so my wife tells me...)

And you won't look like a dork wearing one, either.

I dunno - I know some people that would probably argue with you about that about me...

Looks like I ditch the vest idea - thanks. Coronado looked good but at $200 and up its kind of spendy. Looks like loose shirts and big-waisted pants are in my shopping list. Otherwise a SOB holster and a sport coat.

I second the fleece jobs. The fleece vests work well also. But the important thing is try not to change the way you dress simply cause you are carrying a weapon. Continue being you!!

Good choice on passing the vest up.:P

I don't get the vest deal. I know Massad Ayoob wants everyone to wear one (along with carry two cell phones from two different providers, two flashlights, etc), but I don't want to look like I'm on an African safari, or like Aladdin.

The photographers vest is the ceremonial garment of the Tacti-krishna cult.:P

Thats a good one - do they come in orange?:D

are you from Minnesota? they say things like that up there..

they also don't make tea in the winter..they say its "out of season."

them folks ain't got any sense. LOL

I usually either wear a shirt pulled out in the summer (or I open carry) or I wear a carhartt jacket in the winter...that generally takes care of the coverage.

either way, Rob is right..be you.

*sings* "Its yo thang, do whatcha wanna do":dirty:

A vest says "I'm packin"

I like a twill blazer with jeans if it is cool. It has long tails that don't ride up. If is warm- a loose cut fishing type (Columbia) or Hawaiian Shirt makes thing easy. If I am in shorts, I wear a fanny pack and try to look as European and masculine as possible so people won't think I'm.....

That's why god, er I mean George Kelgren invented the P3AT and P-32. They work in shorts back pockets as well as jean back pockets. Or was it Ruger thai invented it in a time-warp. I can never remember. :woohoo:

Fannie packs are great for hiking in the woods. In Wally-World they scream concealed handgun.

whew! narrowly averted the shameless plug by Marswolf for thunderwear. :woohoo:

As for looking European and masculine... in some parts of the state you may not want to do that.. I should think that in Memphis, that would get you violated..or in the very least, robbed!

Mars is correct on the p3at... that pistol, like the seacamp, is perfect for CC in the summer..or in the winter for that matter! its great for what it does..provide you with a very concealable tool for self defense...and before someone says "its only .380", unless someone knows you and has a bone to pick, then that .380 will deter an assault..especially if you shoot them several times with it...folks tend to worry about themselves quite a bit more than other folks after they develop leaks.

:P

unless they don't even know that they've been shot, which SOMETIMES happens when somone determined to kill you gets shot with any pistol round. A 9mm, .40, or a .45 handgun is a lousy tool for stopping a human in his tracks, but a .380 is the pits, especially when coming out of a 2" Kel-Tec.

I don't know where people got the idea that a 380 ACP is a bad self-defense round. I have some grisly video (LE stuff) that shows that 32s don't always penetrate the cranial vault, but no video showing that in a 380.

Unless you are on PCP, it will get your attention. If you are on PCP, it may take a while, but a nice head shot will still slow you down until you die.

Anyway, a 380 that you carry in your pocket is a lot better than a 45 ACP back at home because it's harder to conceal.
