I started mine out with a Rossi combo they have a rifle/shotgun combo in .20 gauge/.243 that is a great little gun. My youngest has taken 6 doves, 3 bucks and a turkey with his. (I know I should take him squirrel hunting. just hate cleanng the lil tree rats. I do like to eat them though)BTW that Rossi is priced VERY reasonable.

243 when I was 8yo and at 12yo a 25-06 and at 16yo 30-06. Still have all three guns and yes he will cherish whatever you build him till the day he dies......and hopefully will pass it down to his kids. I have 3 kids but 2 girls and 1 boy who is 4 so he has some time before he is ready but hey a good solid Winchester 243 is in his future. BTW the first deer I killed was a doe at 270 yards rested on a fence post. I suggest the low caliber so it doesnt make him shy of under confidnet to pull the trigger. Good Luck with it. God Bless

This is an issue I have been struggling with my daughter who turns five this May. What I have decided on is building her a Custom 10/22 to smack targets with and for her 6th Birthday an AR platform. I will simply buy her two Upper's for this. I'll get her a 6.8 SPC and a .223. The .223 to shoot targets with and a 6.8 SPC to hunt with. the AR's are like a Rossi in the fact you only need one lower, but for a girl she can play dress up if she wishes:)
