AR-15 Lubrication

I have read about lubing too much, but I have a new question...I ordered a BCG today and it was bone dry when it arrived. What should I use for the initial lubrication and how much? What should I lubricate with after the initial lubrication? I know to use oil and all moving parts...any other helpful suggestions?

+1 on the Militec-1! I rub the carrier, bolt, and front of the hammer with a light coat as "Raoul" mentioned, then fire it hot. This bonds it to the BCG. I do this one more time the next time I go out after cleaning. After that, I just put a tiny amount of Militec-1 grease on the bottom of the carrier where any wear shows. Also drop of oil on a cleaning patch and rub it lightly on the lugs and the bolt rings, and wipe off any excess.

Ok so this may be a stupid question but on those diagrams...I assume G= grease, L= Lubrication, 1 drop= 1 drop of gun oil?

And people wonder why I don't like AR's.

I'm still wondering. There are a bunch of lube points, but you don't have to stand on your head to get to them. I think it's the easiest rifle I have to maintain.

I somewhat jest. When you see all those lube points illustrated it's like, dang! In reality it's no harder to maintain than any other semi-auto weapon.

I just like that you can take the whole thing apart with a tooth pick. Every autoloading rifle would probably have as many points if you could get to them.

EDIT: that's why I don't mind so much that it craps where it eats. I can clean and lube the bolt carrier group in about 10 minutes on the bench.
