Did anyone ever see a Ruger Mini 14 in a defensive carbine class?

Minis were always the favored weapon of the A Team. I can't imagine Hanibal, Mr. T and the others being wrong? And as far as mag changes are concerned, they never ran out of ammo and never had to change a mag.

If TV has taught me anything it is that the mini 14 is the ultimate anti jeep gun.

If I had the dough I'd by a mini 14 and give to garufa for a carbine class. I've heard he is an exceptional shot and I'd like to see the result. Mick Jagger said "it's the singer, not the song" Movie pro's will tell you it is the actors and not the equipment and published authors will tell you word processors get in the way about as much as they help.

The long and short of it all is that it isn't the equipment, it is the person behind the equipment that is the biggest problem. You can't buy a golf swing and you can't buy shooting skill but people still try.

Damn, thread drifted. My mistake.

How many times did they hit a bad guy? Though I loved the A-Team as a kid, that had to be the worst Ruger advertisement ever.

... and may very well explain much of the Mini-14/30 prejudice. After all, who wants a gun that even ex-special forces types can't hit anybody with?

The A-Team used Ruger AC556F's. Not silly old Mini-14's.

I guess you didn't notice their fingers going all spastic on the triggers then...

They may have PRETENDED they were AC556Fs, but the number of trigger pulls said otherwise.

( That, or them boys didn't know what a selector switch was... )

I have seen a Mini-14 make it through a Gunsite carbine course. It was years ago and the instructors were surprised the shooter did as well as he did with it.

I would like to thank everyone who responded. It made for some great reading. I especially would like to thank Old Shoot for his comments. While I don't always agree with the man I do appreciate his candid and direct to the point comments.

I do own and love an AR. I soon will buy a Mini 14 and I may take it to a carbine class.

As far as what I want out of the gun I'd have to say mainly homeland defense. Admittedly I am a lousy shot so if I can hit a zombie at 50 yards with iron sights while standing within 2 or 3 inches of my poi then I'm happy.

Thanks again for some good reading. If, in a few months, I take a carbine class with a Mini I will post my AAR.

I have used one in an "offensive class" though.

The class offended you? Or was it some kind of tactical, "offensive rifle" course...?

Sorry, Froggy, but you got some 'splainin' to do....

Knowing you, you were shooting golf balls at 300 yards on a dead run :D.

After reading this thread, I'm going to try some decent ammo in my Mini and see how it performs. I've never shot anything but 55gr SHTF ammo thru it. Even with the cheesey stuff, it was shooting under 1 1/2".

You'll forgive me if I don't automatically question something after being told, "That's all I can say on the matter..." or "All I can say is..."

I know that... But you know how I am. :P

Don't worry about it, Frontier737... I just wanted to make sure you weren't reading something by someone I wasn't seeing. :poop:
