Hey Guys

I'm getting back into reloading after 10 years out and as usual I'm over thinking, that's just the way my head works. With the INTERNET the info is enough to blow a gasket:screwy: but I can't find OAL of different makes and models of bullets. If you could find the time to check some of your stock in 9mm I sure would appreciate it.

I'm looking for:

manufacture, weight, and type:

Over all Length:

If it has a concave bottom:

If anyone is interested what I have here is.

WW White Box 115gr FMJ bullet:OAL .602, Lead concave base .101 deep.

Federal Champion 115gr FMJ bullet: OAL .583, Lead flat base.

Speer 124gr TMJ: OAL .605, Concave copper base .011 deep.

The information necessary to reload would need to include the brand and amount of powder. There are several good reloading manuals available.

OAL will change based on what bullet type is used. For each individual manufactured there will be a different OAL that falls within SAAMI specs. I have found that when using different type bullets for instance 200gr FMJRN .45acp and 200gr JHP, the overall lengths will not be the same. They are two different profiles. Knowing the OAL of every round made with every configurations of bullet would be consistent with knowing the bible verse by verse.

That being said,,I also am possibly not understanding what you are asking for. If you have the bullets in hand...that information is also in your hand. You have two different manufacturers bullets...have you compared them yourself?

I personally would call the manufacturers for that info. Would more then likely be much quicker than waiting for many responses.

When I reload a 185gr JHP and it doesnt match exactly what make my manual used for that round, I know that if I am loading as per that recipe all other things being the same, then I will make a safe round. I use the OAL for that bullet type. I have not run into any issue using this method. I can if I so choose tweak that recipe to fit my firearm such as load variance and even varying seating depth..but that is used in very small increments using calibrated equipment and taking velocity readings etc to ensure max pressure is not being exceded.

If you can ever compilate all of that information into one manual or book..sell it..I will buy it.

I'm kinda confused as to what you're asking as well. I assume you're gonna be loading 115gr bullets for 9mm and are wondering about how the OAL will affect them?? Unless you're going for pinpoint performance, you're not going to notice much of any difference between the different brands of 115gr bullets. My most common loads are 115gr FMJ and 125gr LRN. I load 'em all to 1.14" cartridge OAL (regardless of the brand) and am satisfied.

powders and pressure can have an affect on oal also
