Suggestions for a light weight ar carbine

Been thinkin about doing a lightweight flattop AR upper. What barrel and free float handguard would you all use?

This is gonna be good Similar to a what kind of pistol thread, with the same basic results. There are a bunch of good ones, and not so many crappy ones.

as far as complete guns the knight ar is the lightest carbine i have ever played with, just expensive might look at some of there parts.

Make it a 14.5" middy to save a little more weight.

Definite +1000 on the BCM BCG. It is what I am rocking in my M4gery.

Mid length gas system is going to add some weight when you put a 9" railed handguard on it. My LaRue 9" handguard is solid as a rock. The Daniel Defense Lite handguard wouldn't be a bad choice either.

I've been thinking lately that a Cavalry Arms polymer lower and a BCM lightweight midlength upper would be a nice match.

I really like the BCM middy 16 inch light weight barrel (...signed up on the "send me a note" when back in stock list...). Does anyone have any experience with the White Oak Armlament lightweight ss barrel (..link here: White Oak Armament ..look about half way down....)? The weight is listed at 34 ounces. How about the JP / VTAC handguards (...link here: JP Rifles ..this one screws on .....)? Finally, anyone tried the carbon fiber handguards (....like these: AR-15 / M16 carbon fiber hand guard ..i aint sure i like the idea of tightening everything down and epoxying the handguard on; what da ya think ?....)? Rifle vs carbine handguards (...i like the rifle; more protection for barrel, tube, gasblock...)?

I like the short barrel with rifle length round handguard thing. Let me know what ya think.

I don't think you can find anybody with negative comments about White Oak. As of a few weeks ago, they were 8 weeks out on their varmint upper.
