So I am moving and went into the dmv in cleveland tn and just wanted to follow the rules and do the right thing and change my address. so I go up to the counter and tell the lady what I wanted to do and she hands me two pieces of paper and tells me to fill them out. one for the DL and one for the CL. No big deal on the DL but the other one was the same form I had to fill out to get my carry permit? WTH? Anyway I fill out the required paper work and proceed back to the counter, she ask me for my birth certificate? WTH? ok I said I don't have it and she explained that we can go no further with the carry permit. So go get my BC and return, she does the application and charges me five dollars and tells me my permit will arrive in 4-6 weeks after it clears another background check. She said if nothing has changed no arrests, warrants, or any kinda of trouble should be no problem. Keep in mind I have had my permit over a year and no probs what so ever, and all I wanted was to change the address. Has anyone else ran into this?

Slightly frustrated in TN

I have changed my address twice in the last 12 months. Had to complete forms both times and $5.00 charge. First time, took license and gave me a paper that was good until I got the new one in the mail. The second time, they told me to keep my license until the new one came. Did both in Columbia, TN. No birth certificate needed.

I've filled out that form 4 times. The first three with no problems. The last time cost me over $900 and a trip to Gen Sessions Court. The current administration, in TN, is who I blame for my troubles. There were no changes in the law or in my situation any one of those times. Beware and pray every time you fill out that form. I got my permit back, but I sure could use that $900 also.

Gee, I changed my address on line and it was good for the permit and the dl.

Here is the info from tennesseeanytime.org

About Changing Your Address Online:

The law requires only that you notify us of an address change.

You will NOT receive a new license or sticker for the back of your license, or new handgun carry permit. If you would like the new address on your actual license, you can order and pay for a duplicate license online, which will have the new address.

If you do not want a duplicate license, simply click "Next" to continue changing your address.

Yep if you do it online, it's much easier. The address on your DL/HCP doesn't have to be your current address as long as the address listed in the system is the correct one.

i'd say you are hosed...you have to surrender your permit, and retake the courses and background checks...the waiting period for an address change is 180 days....

hehehehehehe:taunt:

the internet change is the best. i cant believe you would have to fill out the same damn paper like you were applying for the permit the first time, but that is the crap that governments are good for.

while we are at it, why doesnt TN change the permit to expire with your DL? thats stupid. why not make the car tags expire on your bday too while we are at it? sorry, im opening up cans of worms =)

edit: and you can thank the wonderful dept. of homeland security for the birth certificate clause. when i applied for my hcp, i had to have mine too and i had been licensed to drive a car in TN for almost 20 years. that tells me that they cant even trust the ID that the DOT made.

LOL...I all ready have enough to pay on my birthday between DL (Commercial and Motorcycle) and my EMT license, both at the same time this last year. Don't need any more expenses in that same month...
