we're supposed to have strong winds on this side of the state too. I've already gone to my sis in laws' and brothers' (mark@sea) house to see if she needed help battening down the hatches...

My condolences for your car.

Those wind gusts got dangerous.

Good luck to everyone on the temperature change: after a 67 degree reading at 3:50 this afternoon (which seems a little too high), the low in Memphis tonight is forecast to be 23, with a wind chill of 16 degrees.

Buy stock in the cold medicine companies!

I dont know about you guys but I'm sorry about the car and the tree....but I am actually enjoying the warm weather but definitely hating the wind chills since I walk 2 miles a day to classes and work

About all we got was 12/100 of an inch of rain. I guess the main part of the storm gave out before it got to us.

Sorry to hear about the car and tree. More sorry about the tree than the car. It takes less time to fix the car than grow another tree.

I was out of town last night. My wife call about 7:00 to inform me that our gas grill is in the middle of the pool. BIG grill, cold water!

I had about a dozen shingles blow off my roof last night, but that's the only damage. :( Every time we get a good storm I seem to lose some shingles, so if I ever get around to redoing my roof I will probably consider that ugly metal roofing.

Good grief!! Shingles all over the freakin' yard.

Limb fell here at work, got a co workers door and side mirror on his truck.

Limb fell on my house, part of it is on my neighbor's tree (the one it came from), it is then going over my electrical feed wire, and the end of the limb is on my house.

Just saw it this morning, had to get the kids to school and get to work. Don't know if it screwed up any shingles or not. Not sure how to get it off either, as I said, it is over the line that goes from the utility pole to my Electrical head on the house. I will probably have to cut the part that is over my house up to the electrical wire, then shove the limb over and away from house down to the ground. Hmmm, any suggestions, I really don't like electricity, other than plugging stuff in and using it, I don't care about working around it.:(

As for the power line - call MLG&W. Tell them that it is about to take the line down to your house. They should come take care of it. It helps to tell them that you have small children.

Part of our fence blew down last night and I had to chase the dogs in that 16 degree wind chill. NOT FUN.

This morning I got to temporarily fix the fence. If I ever find the guy that built it I am going to poke him in the ribs.

Pre-Fab sections from Home Depot that don't land on the posts. Very weak..I know what my spring project will be.

Sounds like you all had it pretty bad last night out west.

It blew pretty hard here too. I had a hard time getting to sleep waiting for a tree to come down on the house or one of the vehicles. Thought I heard something real big come down out in the woods last night, guess I will go look for it this weekend. Maybe I can score some firewood off it. A few years ago a tree so big it would have taken two men to reach around it burst about 10 feet off the ground and came down. I remember it sounded like a bomb went off when that happened. Got a ton of firewood from that one. Must have been 60 feet of tree on the ground.

I did a walk around earlier and no damage but there is a butt load of sticks I been picking up. One branch came down and it was a big sucker. About 15 feet long and big around as a softball. Lucky it landed in the yard. If it had hit a vehicle it would have caused damage. The thing looked like it came from about 80 feet up.

Sorry about any damage you all took, but glad no one got hurt.

Heard a crash last night, ,opeded the front door all i could see was a bunch of cedar tree. Went out this am and laying across my front deck a 64 ft long X 23" cedar tree.

5' metal table and two of the chairs are history. Absolutely no damage to the deck. Few years back when I built the deck my brother asked me if I intended to park my truck on it.

Said no just that big tree over there. Should've kept my damn mouth shut.

But hey got some more cedar fence post.

Got on the roof last night, no damage, no broken shingles, cut some small branches and cleared the roof with sticks, got to the main limb and it is about 3" from the main power line to my house and it if moves, it hits the power line, called Memphis Light Gas and "Mississippi" Water, they are going to come out and take it down. The lady on the phone yelled at me for going up there to try to remove it. I told her I stopped once I figured out I couldn't do it without hitting the power line.:taser::taser:

We lost power for about 2 hours and 2 trees, one in the road and one in the neighbors driveway over his fence :-) I took a floating holiday and got the paths cleared and the fence mended but I am SORE today. That chainsaw kicks my rear end every time.

I let my neighbor borrow a Deitz lantern, made me thankful I have so many extras.

Jack,

That sounds like the last deck that I built. My wife and I swore if there was ever a tornado or earthquake in this part of the state we were going to take the kids and get under that thing. No way it was going to blow away or fall down. There was absolutely NO play in the structure when walking across it. No bounce no nothing. Built on a 10' x 12' Concrete wall with a 4" slab under that. Put bracing about every 4 feet. Built on 2 x 10 stringers and 5/4" decking. That sucker wasn't going any where.
