Thinking about a 14in barrel shotgun

Other than the $200 tax stamp, what are the cost in taking a 18inch shotgun down to 14inch? Do people normally buy a second barrel and have it cut down, or just have the original cut down? Also, is one brand/model more preferable for any reason for this kind of project (leaning towards Mossberg 500, 590 or Remington 870).

I don't know about the cost's involved in getting a barrel cut. I bought mine as a surplus police gun already equipped with a 14" barrel.

You don't lose anything with the 14" barrel as far as pattern or range. I was hitting clays with mine just the other day. It will make reliable hits with slugs out to 100yds and buckshot patterns nicely at 25-30yds.

The only downside is the mag tube limits the capacity.
