President's surprise visit to Bagram

Recommended Posts

I was able to watch the POTUS' remarks to the brave folks of the 101st and other units and services (Go Navy) today (12/3/10). My hope is the morale of our over-deployed, over-tasked troops was indeed boosted by the POTUS' visit and I pray for all the troops to make a safe and quick return home.

Ft Campbell has a lot of people deployed and it's heart wrenching to see in the paper when we lose any of them, as we have so often over this year.

God Bless our troops and get them home - safe and soon!

Flies 10,000 miles or whatever it is, gets within 30 miles of Kabul, but can't meet with Karzai because of the weather. Right. Like our mighty ally couldn't caravan 45 min up there or something.

Probably had a big heroin deal to finish up. If he was sane enough at the time to do it.

Hope it cheered the troops also, sure didn't me.

Hi Oh Shoot,

Yeah, did not make me too happy either - I thought his remarks the same old same old and like you, I hope the guys and gals with boots on the ground at least felt better - but staying up until 22:30 just to see him was not too considerate (maybe POTUS has a basketball game so he had to be there so late).

All of us who served have been thru the dog and pony visits/show VIPs, though.

But one visit I really did enjoy was Bob Hope and this troop of entertainers - they came to the USS Midway when we were in the Persian Gulf region for Christmas of 87 (talk about feeling my age - both ships I was on are decommed - the MIDWAY a museum in San Diego and the Constellation, last time I checked, sitting in Bremerton in mothballs or maybe razor blades by now).

Ted Kennedy, among others, also made trips at one point to the MIDWAY since we were forward deployed and spend a lot of time underway, but even guys from MA weren't too keen on the Senator's visit.

Oh well...glad to know with a huge deficit we can still spend so much money to make Mr Obama feel better about hiimself by flying all the way to Bagram; off topic, but I cannot figure out how it is allowed that POTUS spends our money flying around in AF1 to campaign - and both parties do it.

And I still pray fevery night for our troops to come home soon and safe.

Wishing you an early Merry Christmas - we got our decorations up today so the house feels very much in the spirit.

Cheers,

B

The last two prezzy have been big on this kind of thing. I guess it is the wartime aspect. Whatever, if the troops like then great.

What I find odd is that when I've been working at a company when the CEO shows up everyone gets freaked out. If the CEO of my last company arrived unannounced the local dry cleaners had better put on rubber gloves and get prepared for business because a lot of folks were going to be crapping themselves.

Yeah, good point on the head butter cutter showing up and having everyone go ape-crap. And yep, Clinton and GWB both were big on visits - I saw Clinton live and in living color when still on active duty. And I do think we all agree, if the troops gain benefit, then its great cause we cannot do enough for those in the war zones.
