Glenfield 60 help

Tonight I decided to take my Glenfield 60 apart and try to finally figure out why it would jam on every shot.

1. The reason it jams is because when a round is removed from the mag rather than being grabbed by the bolt and guided into the barrel it just flips out in random directions.

2. After giving up on trying to remedy the problem I went to reassemble the gun and the whole lower receiver just fell apart in my hands for no reason. Well I'm calling it a lower receiver. I have no idea what to really call it. The internal parts are a bolt, a bolt handle, the recoil spring, the spring guide, and this chunk of various small parts that are supposed to be held together as a single unit. It was solidly held together and I have no idea why it fell apart. I kept all the parts together but I don't know how they all fit together to get it put back together. I don't even know what the proper name for the whole assembly is so I'm having no luck looking it up on google. They have a list of all the individual parts but not the assembly name.

Hi and welcome to TGO. This may be a little difficult to describe online, but I am assuming you are talking about the "action" that is in pieces, right? Here is a breakdown schematic of the 60, http://www.okiegunsmithshop.com/marlin-glenfield60.jpg and you can download the manual from Marlin here, http://www.marlinfirearms.com/pdfs/manuals/MFC_Self_Load_RF_Tube.pdf . I know that isnt much help but from the way you describe it, it sounds like the action is apart. There are three "C" clips that hold the left and right sideplates together with the parts sandwiched inbetween. It is a pain to reassemble the action but with the diagram and patince you should be able to get it back toghter. Review that links and let us know how you are fairing. If need be I could take pictures of my Marlin 60 in a step by step process. It would be a great help to know where you are starting at though.

I looked at the schematic and I still can't make heads or tails of how some of this stuff fits together.

http://i54.tinypic.com/5dl0sz.jpg The stuff in the red circle is what needs to be put together. You mentioned 3 C clips to hold everything together. There are 2 clips on one plate and one clip on the other.

EDIT: I found the missing C clip that popped out. I don't think my model had 3 clips per side.

http://i56.tinypic.com/30n8ysp.jpg So this is the action assembly as it is now. Fortunately not all the parts fell out. This is what I know or think I know.

The piece in the red circle I think fits into the frame where the red dots are. The pin inside the spring sticking up on the top half fits inside the piece in the red dots.

The piece in the blue circle belongs there, but I think I put the nylon piece in backwards.

The part of the spring that is in the green circle fits in a notch on the shiny piece in the purple circle but I don't know what the other end of the spring is to be held against.

The shiny piece in the purple circle fits around the cartridge lifter.

Everything else is in place to the best of my knowledge but I don't know what positions to put them in to fit them all together.

I should also say that it is a bit of a pain to reassemble, but not impossible. I had mine aprt about two weeks ago to change my recoil buffer (the white plastic part). Just look at the schematic and the pictures and take your time. Getting the hammer spring in place with the bridge took a lot of patience on my part but I did get it back toether. LOL

Thanks for the picture, Buck. As for the hammer spring I can put that back in after the rest of this is assembled. I'm guessing that's the leftmost spring you are pointing to in the last picture. Anyway I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the pictures.

Our models are different. This might complicate things. http://i56.tinypic.com/mmwiti.jpg In the green box I see what looks like a spring. I don't have that spring and I don't see any part that looks like it would even hold that spring.

EDIT: The next think I'm having problems with are figuring out where the ends of the spring rest on the 2nd spring from the left in the 2nd to last picture
