NCIC down today

The NCIC is down at the federal level today due to some sort of undisclosed hardware problem. It's been down since about 11:00 am or so, and they do not know when it will be back up.

Which means, since it's the NCIC and not the TBI, there are currently no legal gun sales going on at any dealer in the U.S. until the FBI is back up.

I was at a gun shop and watched a purchase around 1:30 today.

Hmmm...ok. Don't know and certainly can't argue, but as of just a few minutes ago (almost 3:00PM) the TBI reps were saying the system is still down and we still have transactions pending. It's possible that at 1:30 the system was up temporarily or the reps haven't been told it's fixed yet.

Knowing R1100R, it probably wasn't a legal purchase...

(Couldn't resist...)

It was actually at you stepbrothers place and was more like 12:30 since my watch was on

Ft Jackson time.

NCIC has been up all day. We have been running stuff all day. TCIC might have been down for firearm purchases.

Don't know. The email from Doug Woodlee said that the NCIC system was down due to a hardware problem. Then, later in the afternoon, we got another email from him saying the federal system was back up, but they (the TBI) had "hundreds" of transactions to catch up on because the federal system had been down so long. I know that we had stuff pending for several hours and they finally all came back approved late in the afternoon around 4 ish. It's certainly possible that he meant something different.

Yet another reason the unconstitutional TICS should be gotten rid of :)

Hell, just another case of gummit doing badly what need not be done at all -- and charging you for it to boot.

Interesting. Bought a new shotgun today at Dick's in Memphis just before noon. Filled out the paperwork and I was out the door about 20 minutes later.

TICS was definitely having issues today. We had some backgrounds go in around 11:30 and sit in pending status till after 4 PM as stated in above posts. Sometimes we could get in and knock out an approval like normal but we would scramble to write down the approval number because minutes later the system would boot you off and we had to wait to even enter the information into TICS. We got the same email that the Federal system was down and that was the issue but I don't know why that would kick us off Tennessee's system? Once it all came back up and stabilized, they got to working the back log and all our checks were approved by 4 or 5. Not good for people waiting to take their guns home today but still better than a waiting period!

The saddest thing is there appears to be no redundancy in the systems so if one link in the chain breaks, they all just kick back and stop.

It's not just that they're doing it badly, and charging you for the privilege... it's clearly against the TN Constitution... The legilsature is limited to regulating the wearing of firearms to prevent crime, buying a firearm has nothing to do with wearing it.

When are we going to say enough is enough and demand TICS is shutdown?

You're so right, JayC. What happened to the idea of "innocent until proven guilty"? It's a burden on the buyers and dealers. If they are so concerned about illegal gun purchasers, go after them after they have bought.

There should be plenty of information to go and get them. It is just another tax, as far as I'm concerned, and does nothing productive.

If the internet goes down, no guns get sold. That's relying on something that's broken from the start, or sure could be used by corrupted, progressive pols. Let the same group control the internet that controls your gun purchase. That's what the FCC is getting ready to do.

The exact same check would still be run through NICS, just like other states do. No real option to bypass that under federal law AFAIK?

Just cuts TICS and the $10 tax out of the loop.

I'm waiting for the class action lawsuit against the state for the unconstitutional $10 tax on every firearm sold (via FFL) over the last 15+ years. I've got a $150+ dollars coming to me...
