General gun cleaning kit

After spending several hours in a stand off last night I have found that I need a better cleaning kit at home. I normally just go to the department range and clean my pistol but it's a long drive just to go clean my gun. I have a cheap cleaning kit that got me thru for now but I want something a little more specific with some better stuff. What kind of oil, brushes, and bore snake do you prefer? Anything else you would recommend?

My suggestion, Get a 12" Dewey coated rod with brass, caliber specific, jags and brushes, Hoppes #9 for general cleaning and Butches Bore Shine for copper removal.

You'll need gun oil, I use Ballistol but alot of people use CLP. Also, old tooth brushes are handy to have around.

Well... I have a cheap universal cleaning kit that I paid like $40 for as well as an Otis professional kit. Believe it or not, I use the el cheapo cleaning kit most of the time. I use it with Breakfree CLP and a Hoppes lubricant and a couple of picks and gun brushes. It works great.

Gotta admit, that's an intriguing statement. How does A relate to B?

It was pouring rain the whole time we were out there. If I had some oil and towels in my car my cleaning the next morning might have gone quicker and easier.

I should have thought about the fact that not everyone on here lives in Memphis and didn't know it was pouring almost the whole night.

I keep an Otis handgun kit on my bike for cleaning when I have been riding in the rain for way too long. Something like that may be a good deal for your situation. And as others have said, a one piece coated rod with caliber specific jags and brushes.

It was pretty crazy, we were out there for 2 - 2 1/2 hours because the guy was barricaded with a shotgun in the house and then someone way higher up than my Lt. decided it wasn't that important and told us to leave. That's a whole new rant though, lots of us are still pissed about that.
