I have been using the countless resources here to help make a decision on which personal defense pistol and which pleasure purchase gun to go with. Yesterday I purchased a Ruger LCP 380 for a CC gun and a Ruger. Mark III 22/45 stainless with 5.5" barrel. I plan on getting my CC permit soon and becoming more familiar with firearms and shooting as I have never really been around firearms very much besides having family and friends that hunt. In march of this year - had some things stolen from my house and it really got me thinking about my families as well as my own safety. I look forward to learning more and getting experience in firearms .I brought the LCP home yesterday an the Mark III will be in next week so I can't wait until I get it so I can go practice shooting and get used to the gun before my friend and I go get our CC license. Thanks for all the posts and info You provide, it has really helped me.

If you haven't been around firearms much, you might want to consider taking a course such as the NRA's "Basic Pistol Shooting" (or the abbreviated "Pistol First Steps"). Some places offer the Tennessee HCP training during the NRA Basic Pistol course, which might be ideal for you.

From the NRAInstructors.org web site (where you can search for a class in your area):

Name : NRA Basic Pistol Shooting CourseShort Description : Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.

More Details: This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. (Lesson Plan 2nd edition, 2009)

welcome from a fellow kvillian. do take the basic handgun course to become more familiar with your firearms and the safe us of them. I would recommend Austins for that course as well as your HCP course. They are great folks out there and Mike's bunch is always good for a laugh! Post often and stay late!!!
