Thought about it. But this is my first iPhone so just wasn't sure about it. Also wasn't sure if could still apply Apple updates afterwards.

Is the find my phone thing just for the iPhone 4?

I have the 3GS and have noticed some faster speeds. Haven't seen anything else. Not sure what else it did, I saw something about 17 tones for texts but I haven't found them yet!

Downloaded it to my ipad last night. Took about three hours. The servers must have been swamped. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

The find my iDevice is free for an iPhone 4 and iPad. It will work for iPhone 3GS and have heard if you add a iPhone 4 or iPad first then you can add a 3GS for free otherwise there is a charge for a 3gs. Don't 100% quote me on that though.

I did have new text tones, but it says not all features will work on all devices....

There has been a glitch in the text tones for the 3GS. Only the iPhone 4 can get them right now. They are working on it.

I have hundreds of sms tones and mail tones and ringtones....but i stayed 4.0.1 and went to www.jailbreakme.com.

Then installed several installers and overclocked the processor.....love my ip4!!!

No glitches, no lock ups, nothing but happiness.

I have jailbroken before. I just don't need to anymore really. I want to drop my damn iphone down a well anyway. I have to restore it almost daily. Sometimes multiple times a day to get it to even use any apps besides the native ones. It has little to no bars almost constantly. After an hour or so of no signal it thinks it has no sim installed at which time I have to remove the sim and plug it back in. I have to keep a paperclip in my wallet just for this. It will also drop a call as soon as I hit the answer button 1/3 of the time. **** is unbearable. I am leaving as soon as an HTC Android phone comparable to the EVO comes to Verizon.

I got an apple email about iOS 4.2 for iPod Touch. The apple web docs claim that Find My iDevice will work for the iPod Touch.

However, iPod Touch only has WIFI, and if it has a GPS receiver hidden in there it is news to me.

The apple web docs I could find did not explain HOW they could ever physically locate an iPod Touch with no GPS, no Phone to triangulate, and only WIFI if it happens to be in range of an accessible WIFI server.

So does anyone know how they could possibly show an iPod Touch on a map, even if it happens to be in range of some random accessible WIFI server? I wasn't aware that it is possible to accurately physically map against IP addresses?

not really. I dropped the phone and cracked the inner LCD. I bought a replacement and swapped it no problem. After that I thought I was a regular iPhone repair man. I had scratched the case up a bunch so I ordered a new white back to go on it to replace the black one. After taking the thing down completely it hasnt been the same since.
