I put about one hundred rounds through it this past Monday to sight it in and start breaking it in. It fed great, and I expect to have zero problems. Usually a gun this tight will have several malfs in the first 200 rounds and then run flawless if it is built right. This one went together nicely and both the slide to frame and barrel fit is about as good as one can expect and I'm very happy with it. I thought we put on the wrong front sight height at first since I started to run out of travel with the rear sight, but it finally got there.

I will definitely be buying a mill after the first of the year.......it is so much better and easier IMO to build top notch hand built guns with one. What a fun weekend!!!!

Tim, is that a manual or CNC mill that the work was done on?

It was an older Bridgeport manual. We didn't even use a DRO, but we did use a power feed when we could.

It looks like real skilled manual mill work, as far as I know about it (not much).

I've been wanting a small mill too, but haven't yet figured out how to cram one more tool in my basement. :D

That is some major impressive work. To me, you've created a work of art that is not only functional but very enjoyable to look at. Makes me want to do something like that to my G17 to give it character.......

That is Sweet!. Makes me want to do something like that to my Long Slide to lessen the weight.

What make was the slide and frame? I'm waiting on a Fusion fiber optic front sight. What brand did you go with?

It's an STI frame and slide. The total weight of the gun is 34 oz and the slide by itself weighs 12.7 oz.

My friend Matt is very talented and I learned a lot this past weekend about how to use a mill in many other aspects of a build other than slide cuts. I have always done most everything by hand with files, thinking that in the end you will gain the best possible fit etc. But I have to say that as soon as I get a mill after the first of the year, I will be changing how I fit/cut many things. The fact is, there is/was no payoff (in quality) doing it the old school way. And it takes about 1/8 of the time.:)
