Yes

Perhaps hand them a copy of the statute? 39-17-1311

With this part highlighted?:

(:D (1) The provisions of subsection (a) (no carry in parks) shall not apply to the following persons:

(H) Persons possessing a handgun, who are authorized to carry the handgun pursuant to § 39-17-1351, while within or on a public park, natural area, historic park, nature trail, campground, forest, greenway, waterway or other similar public place that is owned or operated by the state, a county, a municipality or instrumentality thereof, except as otherwise provided in subsection (d);

So if I am reading this right, as per subsection D of the above, the only exception to the above rule is that parks owned by the city / county (not state parks) can still prevent concealed carry permit holders from carrying at those parks if they so choose? So a city owned park like Rotary park may not be legal to carry in, but even though it's within a city, Dunbar Cave would be fine since it's a state park

You've got it. TN weapons law is so logical, eh?

One more quirk to the municipal parks: if a county/town enacted no park carry before 4/8/1986, they can still ban them and NOT have to post them either. You just have to "know that". Knoxville is that way,.

It is like Dr. Suess wrote our laws. If only we had green eggs and ham in there.

I really dislike Oak Ridge City parks being posted.

I know I am going to be keeping parts of this thread handy. It is easy to see where his concerns where with the gun buster being from an outdated sign.
