I have an older craftsman tool cabinet that has some rust and such. I want to replace the wood top and repaint all the metal ( at least visible sides ). Anyone have any suggestions on paint type, surface prep or any other such things thanks.

Use some Naval Jelly on the rust. a scotchbrite pad to rough up the surface, and I don't know why rustoleum wouldn't work then throw a few coats of clear to protect the paint and give it a sheen that you like (Flat, Satin or Gloss). For the wood top you can go to Lowes and get a peice of milled lumber, it comes in a lot of different sizes and types of wood.

I have used Rust Encapsulator Paint - Stop Rust and Corrosion with really good results. As gunrunner said scotchbrite for the rest of the surface prep, the maroon is the one you want. If you are going to spray the box, I have had good luck using the acrylic enamel from Tractor Supply.
