Okay, here's the scoop.

I want to take a girl up there this weekend, Sunday, to be exact.

I know its hunting season so I'm prepared for that one with orange fluorescent gear, but can anyone tell me the exact address so I can plug it into the GPS?

I did find directions on the TWRA site but its not that clear. And does anyone know when a good time to catch a herd of Elks roaming around are? We're planning on going up there between 1pm-5pm or before dark, that is. Is that good time?

Any feedbacks would be appreciated....

Thanks!

Oh, I'm guessing since its TWRA property, no firearms are allowed, right?

Well, I know its deer hunting but like does park rules still apply?

Yeah, that was the first site I got when I typed in Elk Tower in Lafollette.

Thought you guys may know a little bit more about Elks or something like that.

Well, Elk are big, noble creatures. Way more impressive than deer and why anyone would shoot one I have no idea. They used to be in this part of the country in great numbers until hunted out. Now there is a most successful repopulation program in effect.

Haha, thanks for that information....but not what I meant.....I meant would you guys know if 12-5pm would be a good time to catch them walking all over the place? Pretty much the same questions my first post had....

But thank you for that information, Garufa.

With an HCP you can carry your gun everywhere, with possible exception of Corps of Engineers and TVA lands, which remain gray.

Last year when we were detoured through the Smokey Mtn National Park, we got to the Elk area a little before dark. Both sides of the road were lined with cars watching the elk hang out. Don't know how long they had been there, but I would guess they have the same habits as deer. Just bigger!

Haha, I'm still here.

Actually, we were going to but we decided not to because it had been so incredibly warm that day and my dad being the hunter, I knew Elks are like deers and wouldn't be out wandering in the unusual warm weather, and I know this because my dad went hunting that morning and he saw nothing, zippo, not a doe or anything all morning so I knew from that we wouldn't see many as I did last year which was pretty cold at this time last year.

We're planning on trying to go up there before Christmas though.....weather should be perfect for deers/elks then.

And when we do go, I'll return the favor and post up some pics of the Elks for you guys!
