Ran outta gas

<--has never ran out of gas in a Car, I did once on a motorcycle due to a person stealing some of my gas at camp the night before.

Here is a Tip, it does not cost any more to keep a car filled up then to keep it on half or near E.

I like to know I have plenty of gas just in case. If I were to get an emergency call in the middle of the night I know I can jump in my truck and go. My wifes car would be another story.

I want to know I have at least 100 miles worth of driving available in the tank, however in general I fill up around half tank, it does not seem like such a hit on the wallet as if I wait until closer to E.

When I started driving Dad gave me hell once when I let a car get below 1/4 of a tank, that was about 20 years ago, I still don't do it. I still remember the day, the car, what I did to get it lower then 1/4, where we went to get gas after.

The reason, I had just started driving but dad would not let me drive more then 2 miles from home, on the dirt road we lived on by myself, so I drove back and forth waiting for him to be ready to go out further. Then when he was ready I had it lower then a 1/4. He was not pleased.

I am the same way. I start freaking out if I get below 1/4 of a tank.

I used to have a 1970 cadillac coupe deville with a 472 big block and close to 400 horses. I remember I would punch it and the gas would go from full to a half tank. I think that beast only got about 4-7 mpg. I reckon that is what I get for having an edelbrock 750 carb on it LOL

Now my lincoln town car I have now is not like the honda I used to have that 35-40 mpg but it gets up to 26 on long trips and about 18-21 on short trips. Much better than the 472 could ever muster LOL.

Most fuel pumps are in the tank now. The gas keeps it cooled and lubricated. Don't let it get really low or run dry if you can help it.

That's what I was going to say!

I also try to refill soon after going below 1/2 tank. I remember the crazy lines and panic when Katrina hit (I think that's when we last had a lot of stations running out of gas?). If something major happened, I want as much fuel in the tank in order to get the heck out of here.

1/2 I'm lookin' 1/4 I'm getting nervous

^This is me.

My wife, on the other hand, waits for the infamous low fuel light. Drives me crazy. Thanks to the display showing approx. how many miles she can go, she'll drive around for another 35 to 40 miles after the light comes on.
