Rusty

this is an interesting subject and approach. I am not as familiar with the Ga. bills as I need to be. I will talk with Jackson. I think I like it.

Thanks for the lead

Dear Sir; Rep Tidwell.

Sir I am asking that you also would consider introducing a Bill like the State of Georgia and Arizona has concerning the “Gun-Free-Zone liability law†for the State of Tennessee. Below is Sen. Jackson’s reply and below that is a copy of Georgia’s House Bills 30 & 31

In addition I am asking you to support Sen. Jackson’s SB 23. Thank you for your time & trouble.

Dear Sir; Thank you for authoring SB 23. Will you please conceder authoring another Senate Bill in TN.Gun-Free-Zone Liability Overview and Bill Text below

This may be the most pro-rights gun bill to come down in many years. A

version of the bill was first introduced by Rep. Randy Graf in Arizona

(HB2456 in 2002) with considerable support (12 sponsors!). Other states

are actively considering it (both Arizona and Georgia HB 30 & 31 { See

below } introduced it in the 2003 session). It has excellent publicity

value even if it isn't enacted in its first few years. A lot of very bad

gun bills are planned, so it's critical to balance that with bills as

positive as this one. Ask your legislators to at least look at the bill

and support it. Basically, "If you create a gun-free zone, you're liable

for any harm it causes."

HB 30

Deadly weapons; carrying to public gathering; exception to prohibition

(1) Franklin,Bobby 17th

(2) Joyce,Brian 2nd

(3) Massey,Warren 24th

(4) Amerson,Amos 9th

HC: SJudy

SC: 01/16/03 - House Second Readers

A BILL to amend Part 3 of Article 4 of Chapter 11 of Title 16 of the

Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to carrying and possession of

firearms, so as to eliminate victim disarmament zones; to change the

provisions relating to the offense of carrying a deadly weapon to or at a

public gathering; to provide an exception to the offense of carrying a

deadly weapon to or at a public gathering with respect to the carrying of

a firearm or knife to or while at a public gathering if the person

carrying such weapon is licensed under Code Section 16-11-129; and for

other purposes.

HB 31

Gun-free zones; certain injuries; liability

(1) Franklin,Bobby 17th

(2) Amerson,Amos 9th

HC: SJudy

SC: 01/16/03 - House Second Readers

A BILL to amend Chapter 1 of Title 16 of the Official Code of Georgia

Annotated, relating to general provisions relative to crimes, so as to

define certain terms; to provide that any person who creates a gun-free

zone shall be liable for injuries to any person injured within such zone

as a result of certain crimes; to provide for treble damages; and for

other purposes

Sincerely,

Rusty Cox

It will never fly.

The state of Tennessee has designated the entire state a “gun free zone†for all law abiding citizens. Only those that wish to purchase the privilege from the state can be armed.

The state can’t be held liable when you are a victim of a crime; so they won’t be able to burden business owners with that liability either.

If state legislators were truly serious about your safety they would throw out the HCP and recognize the 2nd amendment as an individual right.

Since the state is fighting very hard to attract business to Tennessee I doubt a bill like this would have a chance. But if it did; do you think the signs would be removed from the government buildings? rollfloor.gif
