The really frustrating thing is that this would be a really easy problem to solve. Simple data numerical validation would catch these cheats. You should not just be able to get away with making up a company. That company would have had to pay in payroll taxes. The IRS should be able to easily verify that they did or did not pay in those payroll taxes. If they can't find a matching payment then "RED FLAG" this return requires further investigation!!!!

This is just further corroboration that our government employs mostly morons that could not get a real job. We have always known that but we didn't worry about it because we thought "well they don't pay enough to hire competent workers". But recently we found that is not true either. They pay themselves more than the market rate. So we the taxpayers get to pay a PREMIUM price for the lowest possible level of ability, honesty, integrity, accountability, .....

Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) says on Cavuto's show today that one in 19 Americans collects some kind of SSI disability, and that it is clear from other ways to quantify this, that nowhere near that ratio is actually disabled in any way.

Just another huge bogus payout.

I agree with him that no tax increase should possibly be considered until every cent of waste, duplication, and flat out unconstitutional spending by the fed gummit is ended.

I further believe there is no way there should be higher tax rates on the "the rich". One of the problems eating the Republic from the inside is that we punish success and reward failure. That must stop. The Fair Tax would be THE way to accomplish this.

More waste ,fraud, and abuse. Another tax loop hole that need to be closed.

Just like the loop hole that allows prisoners collect SS checks every month.

Congress does not have the politial will to act. Time for more Washington insiders to go.

part of the problem is that these people (IRS) have secure comfortable jobs. There is no merit or expectations. They show up and get a paycheck. If money is wasted or squanderd they don't care the tax payers will make it up. Again the problem was brought to their attention 5 years ago. But they don't care because they are not penalized for not doing their job, but this where we gotten to in our government. This happened in knoxville when county mayor ragsdale's people were spending money right and left on personal travel and dinners

I know how long I would keep my job if I kept sending product to the wrong places with no payment and didn't bother to get it back

Catch the part about the IRS was informed about this 5 years ago and has yet to do anything about it. I guess they're to busy waiting on their annual payraise

This has been going on for a lot longer than 5 years. I can remember reading about this in the 90s. Prisoners also got the first time home buyers credit $8000.00. IRS cannot stop this as long as we have refundable credits.

The IRS can stop it if they want to. They just don't seem to think it's a priority.

Typical... I agree with most everything that has been stated in this thread, especially about wasteful Government employees, whom are there to simply collect a paycheck. They don't care, because they don't have to do so.

Just like drugs, as long as their is a demand someone will figure out a way to get it. As long as we have refundable tax credits, getting money back while not paying any taxes, this will go on. The demand is there.

If they would have a flat tax across the board. No loop holes, no incentives, no breaks, heck even no refunds. Just a flat tax the same for everyone then a lot of things like this would go away and the IRS could be down sized.

Fair Tax is better. Tax consumption only, not income.

they had plenty of time to review my tax record in 2010 for tax year 2006. They claimed I filed them wrong. I hired a CPA who researched and found I filed them correctly. The IRS agreed but I am out the CPA fees to teach them how to do their own job. Anyone that thinks more government is an improvement in their lives is a fool.

Oh yeah they would rather spend their time harrassing good, honest people. We have a mom & pop business and its unbelievable the BS my wife has to go thru to keep everything on the up & up. Like you they like to wait several years hoping you can't provide the necessary paperwork

It takes them several years because this is how far behind they are. If the new 1099 requirement that was in the health care bill stands, they will be 10 years behind.

They are not behind...they typically audit 3 to 4 years back for a reason. The reason is that you have three years from the date that the return was due to amend a return. If they catch and tell you about the mistake during that time, you can just say you made a mistake and correct it. You may pay the disputed amount and a bit of a late charge, but that is all. If they wait until the amending period has passed, they can hit you with the maximum amount of penalties and interest so that what may have been a $300 or $400 penality then turns into thousands.

Sad thing is they are still dragging on my FHTC because of a paperwork mixup at the closing attorney's office. They have the correct documentation now and the last thing I received from the IRS was a "please wait 45 more days" letter ~45 days ago :)
