Shipping Shotgun Question

I am out of the state for a little bit, and it looks like I might have a chance to do some bird hunting in Kansas. However, I do not have a shotgun up here. Does anyone know the legalities or cost associated with shipping a firearm to myself across state lines? Thanks for the help.

Legality is simple: it's perfectly legal to ship it to yourself. Should have your name as shipper and recipient, though can include c/o a second party on receiving end.

Prob is getting it done. Since sending to a non license holder is the one circumstance under which you are supposed to inform the carrier that the shipment contains firearm (BATF FAQ is wrong), UPS, FedEx, and USPS may likely not do it.

If you don't inform carrier there is gun in shipment, no prob sending mostly any way you want, but of course I would not suggest that since that is technically a violation of federal law in the case of sending to a non FFL, even though there is no notation made in the paper work or on the carton to that effect.

Best of luck.

If you drove to this location by car you might consider buying another shotgun there and then take it home with you. If you flew there I'd still look into buying one and a good "air worthy" gun case to take it back with you on the flight. You want to make sure you have a gun case that can survive the cargo handling process, but other than that it's no big deal.

Yeah, I thought about buying another one, but right now is not the best time to be gun shopping for me financially. I was trying to decide if I should buy one and sell it when I was done with it, or if it is worth the cost and hassle of shipping to get one of mine out here.
