Will be done tonight and tomorrow! Cub Scouts, 3-mile Indian Mounds trek, and the 2-mile Battlefield Trek.

I think I went as a kid, don't really remember. Anybody else been?

I have been several times. I went last summer, and I think that was the first time that I was really able to fathom what it was all about. Times previous, I was just happy to be out of school on a field trip or something and did not really think about the significance of what took place there. I think it is a rather somber experience. Glad to hear you are involved in scouts. I am an Eagle scout myself.

Went, put tent up in the dark or at least to headlights, kids played, taught them 3 electives on space, crystal clear night, got the kids to bed, enjoyed some 10 year old, Old Charter.

Did the 3 mile Indian Mound hike, then the 2 mile Battleground hike (5.5 mile total) on a warm partly cloudy day that turned cloudy and rained on us the last quarter mile of our last hike. Found, showed, and taught the boys about deer and deer rubs/scrapes(I found several). Three does crossed the road as we were hiking in the Indian Mounds. Left and drove around a bit, saw a heard of 12 deer, and one lone buck. Stopped at Pizza Hut in Selmer, boy slept all the way home! Great day. Got some good pics, will post later, wiped out.

sounds like a lot of fun. Hope the weather holds up for you.

I have been to Shiloh and walked a bit of the battlefields. Impressive place. Really made me think.

Make one think it sure does. When things get to the point that I seem overwhelmed I will take a quick ride down there and just sit and contemplate all that went on there and how it had to be for those involved.

It is almost like the park itself is a living thing and can sense why I am there. I always leave refreshed from what ever dumb:poop: was bothering me and with a much better outlook on life in general.

I have never been involved in Scouting other than a year or two as a cub scout, but we never did any cool stuff like go on field trips though so I gave it all up at a young age. Just one of many things I would change if I could.

It is good to know that some of you folks work with our youth that way, these days kids need all that good kind of stuff that they can get because they sure are not going to get it in school and far too many wont get any of it at home either. My Hat is Off to you guys.

The two hikes we did, in order to get the patches, came with an information pack along with 15-18 questions on each hike. You did the hike by finding the appropriate monument and learning about a specific event that took place there and answering the questions. So it is not just a hike but it is very educational and you learn alot about the area, original inhabitants, and battles that took place.
