Cavanaugh just can't stand being out of the limelight.

Waco Jim has been a busy bee since his retirement from the position of head honcho of the Nashville ATF office. See his latest appearance in this video.

David Codrea wrote a great article on Waco Jim's credibility.

I don't quite understand why people glorify the nutjobs at Waco. Don't forget federal agents were killed and wounded as well. Though I guess they were killed with gumdrops and popsicles since the Davidians were completely innocent of everything. :D

My point isn't about Waco in this thread. It is about James Cavanaugh.

Did you watch the video and read the article?

What is the point?

The video is about cops getting killed in cold blood by"Sovereign Citizens".....and somehow that's "Waco Jim's" fault?

Great training video. Hopefully it will save some officer's lives. Kudos to Cavanaugh for helping train officers to identify and deal with these nutjobs.

Really?

The last thing I need is an officer going on high alert because I plan on putting an "Abolish the Federal Reserve" bumper sticker on my car or because I might choose not to consent to a search of my person or car or residence without a warrant.

Yes, it is awful that Officers Evans and Paudert were killed.

No, I do not appreciate Cavanaugh, a known perjurer, trying to get peace officers in my area to believe that I am a potential murderer because I support the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Hope this clears things up.

There is a huge chasm between believing that the federal government has absolutely no authority and making a political/economic statement like, "Abolish the Federal Reserve." Even some Congressmen believe that should happen. But really, a law enforcement officer should be on high alert during every stop since, as the video so clearly points out, there is no such thing as a routine stop. There's also a pretty substantial difference between being on high alert and starting every traffic stop with guns drawn and citizens face down in the dirt.

Display your sticker proudly. Worry about things that need to be worried about. If a cop seems a little edgy, maybe cut him a little slack considering some of the folks he has to deal with. And when he asks to search your car, exercise your 4th Amendment rights. You can do all of these things and you and the officer can both go home to your respective families.

Nobody (not even Cavanaugh) is saying that everyone who has those bumper stickers are violent murderers, but that the stickers, along with other evidence, are signs that an officer could possibly be dealing with a person proclaiming to be part of the "sovereign citizen" movement. LEOs need to be able to recognize these signs, and that's what the video is for...a teaching tool.

So-called "sovereign citizens" claim that they do not recognize federal authority, but the fact is, they reject authority in any form.....be it local, state or federal. Most of the officers killed by these types of nutjobs were state and local officers. They are offshoots of the Neo-Nazi, anti-govenment, and redemption movements, and are a very real threat to the lives of LEOs.

I am EXTREMELY skeptical of anything that comes from the nuthouse at SPLC. Morris Dees and his band of kooks are always trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. They say 32 officers in 15 years have been killed by 'sovereigns'. I wonder exactly how much truth there is in that. Without looking at every case, there is no knowing. But considering the source, I have no doubt that the truth has been stretched.

I have known some people with those beliefs. Most are harmless kooks. To lump them all together as murderous radicals just looking for an excuse to shoot cops is ludicrous. To lump them together with the unfortunate victims of an ATF publicity stunt at Waco is an outrage.

So called "sovereign citizens" may end up being you and I. Waco Jim, being part of

a video produced by SPLC shows me how much more dangerous he really is. He

is not looking out for law enforcement. He believes in total enforcement.

He called the Oklahoma bombing "domestic terrorism" when there may have been links

to Al Quaeda back then. There were suspects being sought that weren't highly publicized,

allegedly linked to that august body of "domestic terrorists". Not much was brought

out about that when they captured McVeigh and Nichols. There were a lot of things

dismissed by our federal law enforcement agencies. Maybe you will feel differently

when that gun barrel is facing you, because of a bumper sticker.

Blame it on skinheads and radical militia groups and forget the rest. There was a lot of

political expediency then, or just plain ignorance. People like Waco Jim give a bad name to

the law enforcement community. He paints the American public as the enemy and makes us

all lawbreakers. Enjoy your local BATFE. Bow down and worship them.

Yeh, Waco Jim really gives a damn about LEO's.

Maybe he should enjoy his retirement instead of working with people like the Southern

Poverty Law Center. Pay attention to the SPLC. Look at their politics and make up your own mind.

When it comes to terrorism, the one thing John Brennan said, that I agree with, is that the

agencies involved didn't share information to reach intelligent conclusions, that they didn't have

proper vision. James Cavanaugh let his agency get tarnished by his actions. Politics got in the way

of police work. Just about everything at Waco, Texas could have been avoided.

Cavanaugh was a problem, instead of a solution.

I must be a "sovereign citizen". If Cavanaugh continues, he will make the entire country his enemy.

His kind may be outnumbered, then. But that's the trouble with hindsight.
