Hornady Leverevolution Ammo for 30/30

Has anyone tried Leverevolution for your 30/30? Did you use the FTX or the MonoFlex? What's your impression of it? It's not available in my area, but I'm thinking of buying some on my next trip out of town if they really perform well.

I shot one box at range only.

It's the Flex Tip, didn't know there was another kind...

Very limited and unscientific view is that I had Remington Core Lockt and Federal Power Shok 170 grain pretty well dialed in at 100 and 200 yards on Nikon BDC scope and the Hornady shot well higher at both distances.

It also shot higher, but not as much higher, than some 150 gr Core Lockt. Which basically tells me that the aerodynamic properties of the 160 gr. Hornady bullet does indeed add some range to the overall mix beyond just the bullet weight comparison.

Since I don't hunt, though, I've not bought any more of it to really test, since it's so much more expensive than the Wally World Federal in particular, and can't shoot over 200 yards, so I don't have any kind of opinion about performance beyond that.

I love the bullets. I have never tried the 30/30 factory ammo. I have tried the 45-70 and its hot! Or at least the batch I had. I split three cases down the side and gave up on that box. I use the bullets for reloading since it is cheaper. Last year I tried a 200 gr 35 cal FTX bullet for my 350 rem mag and it really preforms well. I retrieved the bullet from last years buck and it mushroomed out nicely and retained 90% of its weight even after going through almost two feet of deer. I shoot him quartering away. Hit just at or behind the back rib and retrieved it in the far side shoulder. If the factory stuff groups well for you and your rifle I say go for it. I'm impressed with the bullet construction at least.

Like all ammo some guns shoot it well and others don't. You will have to try it and see. Only reason to buy it is if you hunt AND you plan on long shots over 200 yrds. Otherwise for shots limited to under 200 yrds Rem, Fed, and Winchester's will do very well and a lot cheaper. If you zero your gun 3" high at 100yrds, with these other ammos your max point blank range is 'bout 200 yrds. Academy and Dicks have had Rems and Winchesters on sale for $12.48 and rebates for $5 on 2 boxes, thats a net of $10 a box. Academy has the sale this week 11/7.
