I'm a Denier!

You read something that I didn't intend to infer. I'm proud of my son's accomplishments, but

never attempted to say anything about anyone being better than someone else. What is science?

How does one apply it? Funny, I only used my son as a resource to confirm or deny my thoughts.

He confirmed them.

I hope you see I value others opinions, even yours, but don't enter into an argument without

understanding you have to have a valid argument to begin with. Mine differs from yours. One of

these days we shall see, won't we?

The difference in our opinions is that I see skepticism as crucial. Don't ever take anything for granted

and you will be a good scientist. Concensus is politics. Science should be an endeavor for the truth.

It has nothing to do with liking it or not.

Another thing about my son. He struggled through a lot of his math courses, all the way through to

differential equations. It's called determination and some tutoring by friends. Hang in there. You

never know what you might achieve.

Engineering is the application. One has to understand in order to apply.

Thanks 6.8 AR, Mark@Sea, and others in this thread for showing just how rabid the people who buy into the myth of global warming can become; I know a few people who will get quite a laugh out of their ramblings.

Just goes to show you how twisted data can become when people decide to manipulate it for their own ends (i.e. political and monetary gains).

There are political and monetary gains on both sides of the argument.

Lol, you think mechanical engineering is a science?

And I'd tell you to your face that you're a fool if you think it isn't. And also that your age - or lack of it - is showing.

Mechanical Engineering, Microbiology, and Physics are all about the same thing: Discovering how things work... the how and why of how certain parts and pieces fit together and interact. Those three disciplines ( and many others ) may cover different areas and/or different scales, but they all involve the same things, or same sorts of things.

Anyway, it's been a semi-entertaining thread. In the end though, all we have to do is wait, and we'll eventually find out who's right... though I doubt it'll be any of us here that sees the answer.

It's funny how almost every debate we hear this day in time comes down to who's telling the biggest lie. The only thing we know for sure... we have way too many liars.

That's because it's become more profitable to lie rather than tell the truth.

But that comes back to human nature, and most people only wanting to hear what they want and expect, and absolutely NOT wanting to hear anything they don't like.

In the end, I wish there were some way to fix PEOPLE... because if there were, there'd be no reason to worry about "global warming", even if it were real, and even if it were being caused by the human race. I suspect though, that the whole mess is self-correcting. Eventually. :D

Who knows... sooner or later it may be.

Might even become mandatory, in some cases. :D

Not sure anyone on this board will survive if that day comes.

You might be shocked at who would or wouldn't survive.

Oh, there's a way to fix people. it just ain't legal :D

Didn't Adolph Hitler try that back in the late 30's and 40's....IIRC it did not go well for him and his minions, in the end.

I'll wager one thing... If you weed out the liars, the politicians, the bureaucrats, and anybody else willing to put personal gain over what should or needs to be done... or people willing to "go along to get along"... well, there probably won't be a helluva lot of PH.D.s left either. Not these days, anyway. :D

Hitler was after "Ethnic Cleansing"... He thought certain (sub?)races were the problem, not the race as a whole. And in the end, the entire idea of a "master race" falls on it's face if that race is as FUBARED as what they're trying to rid themselves of.

... which is the very reason I don't think people... the human race... CAN be fixed.

Yep, but he's still making Glenn Beck rich :D. Hitler is everywhere

Scientific American ran a survey that shows respondents do not appear to have a consensus that anthropogenic global warming is well proven or easily fixed if it exists--

Observations: Taking the temperature: Climate change poll

Results--

Survey Results

Majority replies to the survey questions (as of this moment)--

Q. Should climate scientists discuss scientific uncertainty in mainstream forums?

A. Yes, it would help engage the citizenry.

Q. Judith Curry is:

A. a peacemaker.

Q. What is causing climate change?

A. natural processes

Q. The IPCC, or Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is:

A. a corrupt organization, prone to groupthink, with a political agenda.

Q. What should we do about climate change?

A. Nothing, we are powerless to stop it.

Q. What is "climate sensitivity"?

A. an unknown variable that climate scientists still do not understand

Q. Which policy options do you support?

A. keeping science out of the political process

Q. How much would you be willing to pay to forestall the risk of catastrophic climate change?

A. nothing

A. Why not, is their uncertainty supposed to be kept a secret? If so, why?

Q. Judith Curry is:

A. Good for her.

Q. What is causing climate change?

A. It's called winter, dumbass.

Q. The IPCC, or Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is:

A. Gonna lose a lot of money now that we know it's a scam.

Q. What should we do about climate change?

A. Well, for the next few months I plan to dress warmer.

Q. What is "climate sensitivity"?

A. The mental rash exhibited by global warming alarmists in the presence of data.

A.

Q. How much would you be willing to pay to forestall the risk of catastrophic climate change?

A. How about you tell me what you're selling, then I'll tell you what I'll pay.

Mark...excellent answers to the "problem"...when will these people figure out we their number.

And in a few months, there'll be real global warming... or at least "half-global" warming, ( "hemispherical warming" just doesn't have the same panic-inducing ring to it, I suppose... ) called "summer". :)

There was a little "Abrupt climate change". It rained Saturday, now it's clear.

Same here... It went from dry and 75 degrees or so to wet and about 41... all in just a few hours.

You think I should panic yet?

I don' think so. I panicked enough

for both of us.
