If you could only have one handgun......

Tough Question. I like the Rabbi's Model 19 suggestion, but I'm not big on those "gutter" sights at the range. Then again a 686 would worry me that the adjustable sights would catch on clothing. My nightstand 4566 is too heavy to carry, 1911's too big. The snubs aren't as much fun at the range. Aargh. OK, a PX4 Storm Compact .40. Just shot one at the range last week, fine gun.

The 19 has adjustable sights. I see my attempt to sell you one fell on deaf ears.

I have to say I am not surprised to see the Glock 19 mentioned often. If I was allowed to sell only one automatic, that would probably be it. It seems to work best for more people than anything else.

I was thinking 619. Of course I'm deaf, otherwise I'd play the pedal steel. However, since I'm not confined to one gun, I'd say sometime before the new year is out, you might punch through the fog. Still liked that PX4 .40, though, a retired LEO had it at the range and let me try it. Very nice gun.

If it's one gun that I currently own it would be the XD9. If I could pick from anything in the world I'd have to think about it.

I HAVE BEEN SURPRISED THAT NO ONE HAS MENTIONED THE KIMBER PRO CARRY II. I'VE NEVER SEEN IT OTHER THAN IN PICTURES, BUT FROM WHAT I'VE READ, IT COULD BE THAT MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TYPE HANDGUN. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY FEEDBACK ON THAT WEAPON? THANKS.

I carry a CDP Pro II daily and it is an amazing gun.

But if I had to pick one gun to handle range, bedside, and carry...it wouldnt be a commander sized 1911. I think the government model would better fill an "everything" gun role if I had to pick a 45. That said, for me, a 9mm is a better do everything caliber.

BTW, WHY ARE YOU TYPING IN ALL CAPS?

As soon as the "one handgun" question was posed, I guess. Maybe there's something to the Glock thing...

My choice would have to be a SIG 226.

It's a little big- but with my MTAC I can conceal it just fine.

Doesn't really matter much to me as long as I can shoot it accuratly and it's reliable. Of course to be practical you'd need at least 5 rounds so that'd rule out derringers and such but I've owned and carried about everything in my 46 years and never felt "under gunned" as long as I could shoot what I had with accuracy. Currently I'm swapping my Glock 22 for a S&W Model 64 38 Spl. and that's fine with me. The extra cash I get will come in handy to pay a couple bills and I'll probably shoot the revolver more since I won't have to chase brass all over god's creation. Since I handload saving my brass is a must for me. I'm going to get a Lee bullet mold and cast my own bullets too, that'll save a few bucks a box on practice ammo. All I'll need is powder and primers and I'll be good to go.

My H&K, USPc .45. Size of a Glock 19, ability to be carried cocked and locked OR decocked, on or off safe, and it's .45ACP. 9mm with hollowpoints has been proven to work well at stopping opponents, but my .45 will work even with hardball, long after my meager stock of Golden Saber is depleted.

I love my 1911, so it's heartbreaking to me to pick the H&K over it, but since it's a "one handgun" thread I thought I'd go with the one I can break down faster for a quick cleaning.

Glock 23c. Glocks are the only auto handgun that I would ever trust my life with. .40 cal packs a bigger punch than 9mm.....a bit more expensive to shoot at the range but not too bad.
