Hand getting sore...

Went to Gun City today with a couple of friends. While I'm not "thrilled" with the facility, I did appreciate the fact that it was dry and warm. And I was really "jonesing" to put a few rounds down range.

Results:

I am a ****ty shot and the safest place to be is about 50 - 75 yards directly in front of me when I'm firing a hand gun. :P

Glock 27 - 100 rounds - Lots more muzzle flip than I expected. Ejector fires the brass pretty much straight up, got two cases in my shirt pocket and one inside my glasses. Got a nice minor burn just outside my right eye. But I did enjoy banging some rounds out of it.

Springfield 1911 classic - Hits hard, good grips, good sights. Fits my hand and my shooting style. Wish it held more rounds. Will need a double mag carrier if I carry it seriously. 50 - rounds.

Springfield XD .45 compact - 100 rounds. I'm in love. I really believe this is the best parts of the glock and the 1911 put together. I am going to have to shoot it more to get the trigger pull down, get comfortable with my grip, and get used to the extra capacity of the stock and extended mags. But much like a new girl friend, you have to find your way around the curves and get comfortable with where you put your hands. All of which takes time... ;):D

So now I'm going to go soak my hand, it's starting to get sore as I haven't been shooting much at all lately. Need to find a better indoor range and get a membership.

Thanks for listening... :D

Ouch, sorry about the burn.

My brother in law was firing in the next lane over from me last weekend and kept showering me with his spent 40 casings from his Glock 22!

In regards to the XD's trigger, It has taken me awhile to get comfortable with the trigger, I'm ok with it after 750 rds, but I still need some more. Not saying it is bad, it is just different, for me anyway.

I have been considering for a while now the thought of sending my XD45C off to Springer Precision to have the trigger worked on. I'd like a shorter reset and less over-travel. I am told that Springer does magic with them.

The trigger reset was one of the reasons I bought the G17 instead of the XD45. I tried out both before I bought the G17 and liked its trigger reset the best.

All I can say Arch, is get to the range more. I like the feel of the 1911, and I don't think an extra mag takes up too much space to avoid carrying one. I don't like the way the Colt mags feed in my Springfield Mil-Spec so I am trying to get some more factory mags.

I love the way the Glock carries, so I tend to carry it out more when I am going for high concealment.

The Beretta has basically become a house gun since the wife likes to shoot it.

I wouldn't mind having a 1911 or Beretta 92FS myself. And still may!

Those two plus one are on my short list, either a Kimber Ultra Carry II or SA 1911, not sure of the model, a Colt in 1911 style and I really like the Berretta's, that is what I qualified with in basic training. Shot Colt 1911's when I got to my unit.

Paul, I'd love to have you as a guest at On Target sometime. I've got some guest passes that came with my annual membership and I think you might really like the range. It's worth the short drive to Murfreesboro.

Thanks David, I really appreciate that!

I may just take you up on it in a couple of weeks. :)

Ghostrider,

You should definitely check out On Target. The bad thing about Gun City is that brass hits the side of the lane and hits you. And unless they've remodeled, that material that's on the side of the lanes chips off when brass hits it and goes everywhere.

Safety glasses are important when shooting, but you must have them at Gun City because of the range design. I remember shooting there a long time ago and had a bunch of brass land on top of my safety glasses. Nothing like hot brass on the bridge of your nose.

I absolutely plan to go to on target, it's just timing.

Right now everything in my life seems to be a timing issue with my job and travel to Houston.

I'm supposed to end this project end of March but God alone knows where I'll be going next. At least it will be getting on toward spring and maybe have a few less weather related issues...
