What are your favorite sabot rounds for deer hunting and what gun do you prefer shooting them out of? I am mainly interest in accuracy/groupings at 100 yards.

If using rifled choke tube:

Longer tubes are reportedly better, such as the Hasting's Paradox

Lower velocity is better, under 1500fps such as Wichester BRI and Litefield Lites

Some also report better accuracy using 3" shells vs. 2 3/4"

Accuracy: 3" at 50 yrds

The litefield website use to have some good research article on this topic

Hornady makes a good round its a 2 3/4" round for fully rifled barrels only .This is the round I used in my slug gun 2" sub groups at 100yds is what the website says. I only shot them twice at paper at 3 bucks every time you pull the trigger its a lil' expensive but it was dead on.I never got the opportunity to put meat on the table with it yet though.

300 gr saboted bullet with 1641 fps /1793 ft lbs @ 100 yds . hard on the shoulder too .

Hornady Manufacturing Company :: Ammunition :: Shotgun :: SST® Slugs :: 12 ga Slug 300 gr FTX®

Hornady SST and Remington Solid Copper are the most accurate, but a little pricey for range time. The Remingtons are slightly heavier and a little more expensive, but both work well & are very accurate. I've only been to the range twice since I bought my rifled shotgun barrel and can hit stationary clay targets at 125 yrds with both. Walmart sells Winchester sabots cheap...good for the range, but they're not quite as accurate and they feel like a sledge hammer on your shoulder when you pull the trigger!

I use a Mossberg 500AT w/24" Slugger barrel & Williams Fire Sights.

for sighting in and range shooting I use an over the shoulder recoil pad. It helps!!!

I just took your advice and picked one up. Made a world of difference! My shoulder wasn't as colorful after going to the range this weekend. :popcorn: Thanks.

When I was stationed in Germany I got introduced to the Brenneke brand of slugs. Benn using them ever since. They offer a rifled slug for using in a smooth bore.
