TN House - Republican or Democrat after 2010 election?

Anybody have a gut feeling how the TN State House will end up after the election this year? There are pundits all over the TV talking about the US House swinging back to the Right, but I have heard no talk about the TN State House.

You may remember a short while ago the TN House had a Democrat majority, and if memory serves, had had that majority for quite some time. Seems like it was a strange turn of events that brought the house back to Republican majority, but it worked in out favor.

The best thing to come out of the recent swing to the right was the ouster of the former Speaker Neifeh, who is very anti gun. If the House was to swing back again, It's almost certain he would be back in charge, and block any bills we may want to get passed.

It's funny that an Anti-gun governor can be overruled, but an Anti-gun Speaker can block a bill before it even gets out of the gate.

TN House in 2010 was 99 members, 52 Republican, 47 Democrat. My prediction for 2011 is 58 Republican, 41 Democrat.

TN Senate in 2010 was 33 members, 19 Republican, 14 Democrat. My prediction for 2011 is 22 Republican, 11 Democrat.

Keep in mind that about half of those Democrats vote pro-gun, are fiscally conservative, and are nothing like those idiots in DC. The other half of those Democrats, ARE of course liberal idiots.

Even if 1gewehr's predictions are off, or even completely wrong, it will stay Republican. (No offense meant. Just that nothing will change if your predictions do not come true...)

Predictions on the Gov race put a (useless) "Republican" in the governor's seat. (I expect no better than "Sunquist" lite from Haslam.) Which should (should) mean the republican agenda will be in place for a while. (I just hope it is more Legislative intent, than what the governor wants...)

Agreed. I think Haslam with sign whatever the Republican State House puts in front of him.

I believe he will be afraid not to. The state house will call the shots on the gun and hunting

issues. Remember, there was a 6 term senator from tennessee that was voted out for

voting for one anti-gun piece of legislation; the 1968 Gun Control Act. His name:

Last time I talked with local Republican leaders, they thought they could realistically gain about 5 seats in the TN House. Perhaps the single biggest benefit from that would be the likely ouster of Kent Williams as Speaker of the House. His committee/chair appointments were the death of several good bills last session, and made it very difficult for others to migrate through.

Yeah them GOP folks are really tight-fisted, no waste, no pork barrel projects; fiscal bottom line based on best interests of US taxpayers.

Right now, with most of the West districts not yet reporting, looks like Republicans may end up with at least a 60-39 majority in the TN House.

Just heard on our local NBC Affiliate here in Knoxville, that it looks like the Republicans will have at least 66 seats in the TN House. That's a rout anyway you want to look at it! We might actually see a Unrestricted Carry bill sent to Haslam for his signature!

You're another who confuses "Republican" with "conservative" or better, "freedom".

I doubt we'll see any real changes to weapons statutes this session.

First changes needed:

- Anyone can keep loaded handgun in car, including at place of employment (cept won't be able to get around federal property)

- No criminal penalty for carrying past a sign, or simple elimination of posting period

- Get rid of stupid knife length, club, and switchblade restrictions

We won't see those change either.

Looks like Republicans gained 14 seats in the House (64-35 now), and 1 in the Senate. 15th Senate District was incredibly tight: Burks by 183 votes over Steakley. Doug Jackson loses by about 900 votes to Summerville in Senate 25, McLeary over Finney by 1200 in Senate 27. Kent Coleman loses in House 49 (there goes at least one consistent anti vote). Even Naifeh was in a close race...which he unfortunately won.

We need to get moving to make sure that Rep. Beth Harwell does NOT gain the Speaker's position. She is a ranking so called "Republican", and poured a lot of money into the State races this year, buying influence along the way.

She is violently anti-gun. We might as well have Naifeh in the Speaker's spot if she is able to gain it.

No politicians have our best interests at stake. They want what is best for them. If it doesnt benefit them and line their pockets some how some way they wont vote for it whether democrat or republican.

I know the difference between the two. Democrats tend to be more liberal and republicans tend to be more conservative but there are some that may be visa versa so.
