Being new to the laws of this GREAT state,

I am waiting on my permit to come in, with that being said, is it against the law to say, visit a pistol range in another state? Or, should I just wait until I have my permit?

Thank you for the input!

You don't need a permit to go to the range, at least in TN. I just put my ammo up front, and my gun in the trunk during the trip. I was told as long as your gun and ammo are separated, you can transport a gun to the range and back home without a permit. I'm sure someone technically savvy can probably point out the specific law to you.

If you go to another state, just look up that state's laws.

Yes. Travel normally, gun and ammo separate. Be sure to look up the state's laws regarding transport of firearms. Other than that, you should be fine.

You would follow the laws in the state you are visiting. I don't need a handgun carry permit to drive across Arkansas to Little Rock from Memphis with a handgun loaded in my car or even carry one on me outside my car when 'on a journey'. If you go to Mississippi, you can drive with a loaded pistol in your car concealed or unconcealed without a license.

Just check the laws where you are going. Some states you can carry openly outside your car without a license or permit. Some states you can carry a loaded pistol on the seat, glovebox, or under the seat without a permit, just check.
