Any tellico(South Cherokee) info?

Thinking about going to do a long weekend hunt in december for deer/hogs...Any info Is helpful...like chances of seeing a deer or hog...what the density is...also I'm kinda confused as far as if the season on the wma is the same as regular? Also we're planning on camping in a camper(tent if we have to) so is there any campgrounds like in the wma? I seen on the map on the tn website that they had denoted camp grounds...and does it cost anything to camp there?

South Cherokee wma has designated hunts for the hogs and deer IIRC. Check the TWRA hunting guide, for listed hunt dates.

Only hunted it for a couple of days on a late muzzleloader hunt; didn't see anything, however I met up with two feller's dragging out a very nice 8 pointer...so they are in there, for sure.

Hogs are a different story...you'll probably need dogs to root 'em out of the thick stands of mountain laurel and rhodadendron (sp)?

Hunt the creek drainages and look for wallows and rubs.

Thanks for the info... I was checking the regs and it looks like they have a hunt when I'm wanting to go but I didn't know if it was only open on specific days...

When I was up there hunting, we did see some hunter's camping along one of the rivers in the wma, Tellico river, North river, maybe.

I think they have a pay station at one of the bigger camping area's.

You'll have to keep your food in bear proof containers and your cooking gear clean and put away; the rangers are really anal about this and will write you a fat citation for any infraction concerning the bears, in a heartbeat...trust me.

Went camping up there decades ago and the land is freakin beautiful. Dunno nothin about hunting, but I need to go back up there some day just because it is so pretty.

Thanks for the info guys!! I'm really looking forward to the trip!! I think we should be able to find some hogs along the rivers and maybe a few deer as well!!
