Bass Pro attendant on 9mm ammo

He didn't know what he was talking about.

True, but I think we tend to expect a bit too much from the guy making $7/hr behind the gun counter at such places.

Any modern JHP ammo will perform adequately. Worry more about how it feeds in your gun and hitting your target.

Oh I made a mistake. I was meaning I can't find the Hydra Shock ammo. Not HST. Any help with this?

Bass Pro is where I get Hydra-Shoks (Never looked for HST). They won’t be cheap, but you can’t go wrong with either.

You know what I do when I don't know what I'm talking about? I try not to offer advice.

Wish all $7/hr salesmen who weren't knowledgable were the same way.

There's a reason it's called Dicks.

Yeah, in fact I believe the salesman behind the counter's name was....Richard Head. :)

The one in the Hacks Cross / Winchester area here in Memphis had a clerk that treated me pretty well one evening. Of course, when I saw their ammo prices, the love affair was over...

I have never been in one of these stores where I was treated well.

It all comes down to expectations. Simply put, don't expect a guy making $6 an hour to know anything and you'll be fine.

That's a good rule of thumb. Well put...

Oh yeah, that salesman was right. I've got some Golden Sabres and they barely make it out of the end of the barrel...

/sarcasm

If you will point the pistol slightly downhill they will do much better. It helps to have gravity on your side.

Addtionally, a whole lot of people believe that 9mm is inadequate. I'm not saying it is, I'm just saying so many people believe it, it would be hard for me to fault some guy for saying he would rather have a larger caliber. I would just ignore his opinion and buy whatever I wanted. That's one of the reasons I very rarely ask a salesman's opinion on anything.

I also make it a personal policy never to buy handguns at big box stores where the employees aren't allowed to carry handguns. Just a personal thing.

Everyone that works in the gun section of BPS are morons...but they do have re-loading supplies now...and a lot of it, for reasonable prices.

Trouble maker! Why you have to go there? Am I going to have to break out all my charts and studies again! :D

Save them. Charts and studies can be produced to prove any point the presenter wants to take. Some are accurate; some are laughable. :D

Don’t worry about defending your favorite round and just apply the sciences you know something about. Physics is your friend.

Or you can choose to ignore the physics and simply rely on the “Shot Placement†theory. It’s all pretty simple then. It doesn’t matter if it’s a .22LR or a .45ACP if it’s passing through the heart or brain. Then all you have to do is have the ability to deliver a round where you want it while experiencing what is probably the biggest adrenalin rush of your life…. Piece of cake.

Dave, you really have to work on your sense of humor. :)

I'd go with Speer Gold-Dot, and I'd ask the clerk to find another job...soon.

I've used Golden Sabers in my 9mm and 45 ACP and they both perform very well. Everybody has ammo preferences, but these are a good choice for self defense & will deffinetely do the job. I've used Golden Sabers as well as PMC Starfires and Gold Dot...all will tear the ass end out of a phone book. LOL. The sales clerk just wanted to make a big sale and sound brighter than he really was. You came in to buy ammo, so this goober tried to sell you a higher caliber pistol instead. He must have trained at Wally World before his big break at BPS.
