Any hunters in SW TN?

Any hunters in Shelby, Tipton, Lauderdale,Haywood or Fayette counties? I'm just moving into the area due to a job change, and I'd like to find some folks who hunt. I hunt waterfowl, deer and turkey, with bow, rifle, shotgun and black powder (inline).

Also, if anyone is just interested in a meet-n-greet, I'm up for that, too. I'm currently living in Bartlett, but I work in Covington.

I am a quacker smacker in the Haywood/Madison county ( Mercer), part of Hatchie. I gotta say this year has been THE worst ever, I usually hunt between Hatchie and Tigrett but with gas being so high this year I just hunted Hatchie. But the guys who I hunt with @ Tigrett said their best day was only 8 mallards between 7 people in the blind so that was a poor year there as well. Only real good hunting I have heard of this year was from another buddy who hunts in Halls but he is spending pretty close to 20k on his lease.

Growing up I hunted quite a bit in the Tigrett bottoms, duck, dove, coon and deer. I love that area.

Don't do much hunting anymore, when I get an invite I try to go, but financially, job commitments and family have slowed that down as well.

One day, I will be back in the woods!

Well odds are you know where I hunt up there, a buddy of mine bought a fair lil plot of land on Miller Loop that runs along side of the nature trail/ old railroad. It is a pretty good spot but I just can not drive that far with hunting being so poor.

Been a few years, but IIRC, the rail road is on the east part of Miller Loop, I can't remember completely.

One of my best friends uncle lived on the West part of Miller Loop by Braden Ditch Road. He is the one that took us coon hunting (he had the dogs).

If you go back down highway 20 toward 412 on the right is a Dairy Farm, the Bells own that, Tom Bell Road, that is where I dove hunted for the most part.

Welcome,

I grew up in Memphis and live in Fayette now. I hunt ducks, mostly go with friends. I am starting to get into deer hunting. Where are you moving from?

Paul

Thanks for the welcome. I'm moving from SW MI. Decent waterfowl hunting up there this season, even tho I didn't get to go any. A couple of my buddies went and had pretty good success. Getting ready for the new job, the move and what-not. I did get to deer hunt a couple of days and ended up with a button buck that came in with a doe. My buddy and I thought it was 2 does, so we each took one.

Yeah I know where both of those places are . The nature trail/rail road is kinda in the middle of the loop maybe 1 mile from the creek, I wish I could remember what the farmers name is that does the land but he farms just about all of the loop. I think another buddy and myself are going to try and get in on a lease up in Eaton Bottom for next season to just see what all the talk is about. We have one spot in Jackson that we are trying to get but @ 12k for a lease its kinda hard to get on that with out loading the place up with people where the one in Eaton is only about 7k. I guess its one of those things where I get spoiled with all of these free spots that I have been hunting for so long and only fair hunting it makes spending a bit more money not sound so bad if you can kill good numbers.

If you guys hear of anything good that is coming up for lease and it is not priced TOO high let me know :) .

Is the farmers last name Barber? They had a big farm in that area and farmed a lot of that land.

Oh, to the OP, sorry for the major thread hijack!:D

NP. I'm learning a bit about the area, and this is part of the learning. I'm sure it's like MI, it sometimes depends on who ya know. I've been lucky in that regard in that I've met people who let me hunt their property (deer) or took me with them (waterfowl and turkey).

I think that may be who it is, I would have to call up my buddy and ask him to be sure.

Crocket, Dyer, and Tiption CO's are some of the better hunting spots that have cheaper leases that will be kinda close to you. If you are serious about maybe trying to get in on one a spot I can give you a number for my buddy who owns the farm in Tigrett . He had talked about leasing out the timber blind last year and just keeping the field blind. This spot joins the WMA so there is a good deal of fly overs and wood duck/teal as well as a healthy mallard population in the early season.

Yeah, please do pass the info along. PM would be fine. Thanks!
