Sitting with IWB - I dont want to hurt my baby

Ok, I have an IWB leather holster for my 1911. It doesn't have the full body side leather panel like the kholster or supertuck. It only comes up to the trigger, which I am fine with. I am not a big guy, but, when I sit my body can sometimes press laterally against the thumb safety or mag pushes on the rear of the seat (and there is like a 1mm play in the mag (in and out). I fear the this can negatively affect the proper function of the action and cause a mechanical failure when i need it. It's not uncomfortable, the holster is great, I can tuck my shirt in with it and even wear a short T-shirt. It also allows me to get a great pre-draw grip.

Am I being nutters or overly cautious? I know that this gun is built to work under a lot of demanding conditions, but maybe not sitting under my side-fat.

Don't carry a "baby." (Not that that is one; it's fine.) But carry a reliable workhorse that you ain't gonna be picky about. If you carry a showpiece, you'll probably not have it when you need it.

Yes.

Think about the number of things and frequency with which a cop's gun bumps stuff during the course of a normal day.

It'd be pretty silly for a the 1911 to have survived the trials that the Army put 'em through before adopting the design, and then several wars, military actions, etc.... only to have one done in by a little flab. :P
