I have an Chinese Para SKS with a parkerized finish that needs a few spots touched up. What's the best method/material to use in this situation? Sorry if this is a n00b ?, but I am a n00b. :) Thanks in advance.

It is almost impossible (not saying it can't be done) to do a spot touch up on parkerizing. Unless it is rusting just keep it oiled and you should be good to go. Only way to get it to look right would be to park the whole gun again.

I fully agree with I_Like_Pie's observation, if you try to touch it up it'll look pretty terrible, having it reparkerized isn't necessary. Another option for you that would really look sharp would be dutting a duracoat finish on the barrel action, right on top of the parked finish.

It would be cheaper to parkerize it. If not the same price.

Thanks for all the tips guys. How much would a duracoat finish cost? Is that something a gunsmith would have to do?

You guys may disagree but I have had good success just using a cold blue to touch up small spots. I have never tried it on anything other than a nick or scratch and even then, mainly on black manganese phosphate type finishes. Mainly if you have scratched or nicked the finish thru to the metal to where silver is showing, the dark bluing just hides it somewhat.

Birchwood-Casey's flat black instant touch-up pen...works for me, on those minor scrapes and dings acquired while "slinging some lead". fwiw

Huh!?

cheaper than dura coating. Easier too I might add.

I would personally just use cold blue. Or do nothing at all, as someone already said it is an SKS

Why all the SKS hatred? :death:

Why all the SKS hatred? :)

Sorry I didn't mean to sound like I'm a SKS hater. Thing is, its not a H&H so I wouldn't be so soft handed with one and definitely not worried about a scratch or two if it were mine.

This might be a n00b ? but what is a H&H? :nervous:

I've been waiting to try that thing. Guess it was a fail on my behalf.

I got it right off the bat. Kudos--Nagat or an sks are about as far as H&H as one could get. Actually saw the shop they have in London. Was Sunday morning and they were closed. Drat!

Thanks for all the tips guys, I'll give the cold blue a try.

On the same track.

"Sharpie", seriously, it blends in just fine for small touch ups.
