Cheap Ammo

(I've looked around on TGO, and I believe that this sub-forum is the best place to post this, even though the emphasis here SEEMS to be reloading....)

I usually buy my ammo from Cheaper than Dirt, but I noticed yesterday that CDNN Sports has some very low prices.

o I’ve bought Remington Golden Saber BJHP .40S&W from Cheaper Than Dirt at roughly 67c per round (taking into account the shipping costs and other fees).

o It appears that if I had bought from CDNN, the bottom-line cost for that same order would have been about 42c per round.

o By comparison, the bottom-line price from my local “bargain†place here in Dickson would have been $1.10 per round.

I don’t think there is such a thing as good prices on high quality personal defense ammo.

I even get a C&R discount and it’s not much compared to other items.

I haven’t been able to beat buying local. I buy my WWB range ammo at Wal-Mart and my PD ammo at Bass Pro. I haven’t found any on-line sources that will save me more than a few pennies on PD and they all cost more than Wal-Mart on WWB.

Now that at least some Walmart locations in this area have started stocking Winchester PDX1 ammo in some calibers, I'll probably not only be getting my range ammo there but my 9mm SD ammo, too. $18.xx per 20 rounds of PDX1 ain't what I would call cheap but it is better than I have seen it or any other premium SD ammo anywhere else. Strangely, the ammo is $1 more expensive ($19.xx) at the Athens, TN Walmart than at the Lenoir City location.

I have also bought one box of .38+P PDX1 at a Walmart but haven't tried it out, yet. Folks on other forums have performed informal tests with the ammo in 9mm and, coupled with the accuracy and smooth functioning I got from it in my P95, I have no hesitation about carrying it in that chambering. That said, I never assume that a particular type of ammo performing well in one chambering means it will perform well in others. For those who are interested, I have also seen PDX1 in .40 and 12 gauge at the L.C. Walmart. I can't recall, for sure, but I think I may have also seen it in .410 and .45acp there. The 9mm loading is 124 grain, bonded +P.
